Ready Or Not: Prequel Edition
This game is old enough to vote, and like a fine wine it only gets better with age. Don't let the lack of ironsights fool you, this game was doing what Ready Or Not is doing, only with fewer fancy trimmings, 18 years beforehand. Sure the graphics are basic by today's standards, and most of the scenery is out of proportion, but comparing it to modern games over graphics is like trying to compare a 1968 Mustang to a modern one. SWAT 4 has all the charm of a game of its era, and a heck of a lot of little quality of life touches that make it easy to replay, plus its age means that the loading times are quick and the menu UIs satisfyingly basic. All the basic mechanics of Ready Or Not are there; less lethal weapons, check, arresting suspects, check, door wedges, check - even the optiwand is present for peeking under doors and around corners. Think about that for a moment, a game that came out just after Billie Eilish was born had a fully working optiwand tool. All the other SWAT classics are there, flashbangs, CS gas, stingers, and of course a small but meaningful selection of lethal options. Oh, and you can take a taser as a sidearm, rather than faffing about with it as equipment. Hint hint.
