Sumerian Six follows the Enigma Squad, a team of commandos composed of the world’s greatest scientists who combine their skills to conduct secret missions in their fight against the Third Reich. Together, you seek to thwart ex-member Hans Kammler's nefarious plans involving a powerful, mystical substance named Geiststoff.

Embark on a thrilling journey across multiple continents alongside allies such as the exiled chemist Rosa Reznick, Wojtek the Werebear, and the esoteric psychoanalyst Siegfried von Adelsberg. Dispose of your enemies by using each team member’s unique set of abilities inspired by their fields of expertise, and learn to master the art of chaining them together for devastating effects if you hope to be successful.

As you delve deeper into the Nazi plot, you’ll encounter occult-scientific weapons and ancient Sumerian artifacts linked to Kammler's machinations. A grim future awaits you should the Nazis be victorious, so do your best to prevent that dark timeline from coming true in this real-time tactical stealth adventure.

Great Map Strategy Game

Made a couple tweaks to the graphics settings to prevent lock-ups during simultaneous actions, but have otherwise enjoyed this straight-forward map strategy game set during a kind of Weird War 2. On Normal setting, it feels more forgiving than Desperados 3, and doesn't lean as hard overall into character development like we saw in The Lamplighters League. The voice acting is refreshingly well-done, and I especially enjoy the character-specific XP boxes spaced around the map, and the frequent auto-saves that don't intrude into the game as they do Shadow Gambit. Some things I'd enjoy seeing down the road: more prominent presentation of the individual map goals and perhaps both an option to hide the XP box locations from the map and to see a post-map report such as in Shadow Gambit (I was one box short on the first map and curious what areas I'd missed during my killing spree). But even if those additions don't come, this is a well-made, well-paced, enjoyable game with strong voice acting and a (so-far) intriguing story. Very happy to have it alongside the classics of Mimimi Games.

Highly recommended for fans of the genre

If you're a fan of stealth tactical action games, especially the Mimimi ones, you'll enjoy this game. The game's got lots of personality and creative mechanics, and it's reasonably priced. On the other hand, if you're new to the genre, Shadow Tactics and Desperados 3 are probably a better introduction to this type of gameplay before returning to Sumerian Six, because they're a bit more polished. I truly enjoyed the creative takes on the standard abilities common to the genre. The "sniper" doesn't have limited ammunition, but his arrow needs to be recovered from the dead body before being used again. The "strong man" who can kill tough enemies or multiple small enemies at once needs a moment to transform first, which draws attention and disables crouching. The "spy" leaves a visible crouching body at the spot where he initiates the "disguise", and the disguise has a limited range around that spot. The trap throws its victim, which is sometimes a blessing because it enables easier hiding, but usually a curse because the flying body is visible even over walls. Besides the usual abilities which attract enemies (whistle, "throw rock", "medical bag"), there are also some abilities which repel. There's also an interesting variation on the dog enemy and on the tough enemy. Even the setting is kind of a variation on the original Commandos. On the downside, balance could be better. Some of these creative new abilities are downright OP (invisibility, human bomb, dissolving stab) and some of them I've almost never used (the jumpy trap). The game is also a bit buggy, but I never ran into a game breaking bug which a 3 minute old autosave didn't fix. All in all, I had lots of fun playing the Sumerian Six. I'm glad there's someone continuing to make these games after Mimimi shut down. And I'm happy that it's not just a by-the-numbers copy-paste of existing games. The devs took risks and made it their own.

The heir to Mimimi is here!

Anyone craving their hit of real-time stealth tactics following the demise of Mimimi Games should definitely try this out. Gameplay is extremely similar to games such as Desperados 3 and Shadow Tactics, though missing a few advanced features: there's no footprint detection, no difference between night and day in terms of enemy behaviour, and characters don't make any detectable sound when moving. There are also no civilians in the game, nor any non-lethal means to dispose of enemies. The story is predictable but fun Indiana Jones-style fare: an alt-universe WWII where the Germans are using a mysterious substance to develop a doomsday weapon. This premise allows for travel to some more exotic locales, from a snowy mountain fortress to a Sumerian archeological dig site. Graphics are a particularly strong point and all the locations look beautiful, though I'd have liked to see more in the way of alternative paths through certain levels. Music was generally fitting - I especially liked the soundtrack for one level set in a picturesque village - though one particular track in a later mission felt a bit out of place. I noticed the occasional slowdown while playing - often while looking at the map - and once had the game freeze up completely, but otherwise I didn't find any major bugs. Character and level design was decent, though I found certain characters and abilities overpowered, and others (e.g. Izzy's 'swap places' and Alistair's launchpad) fairly useless in most situations. Overall this is a great debut in the RTT genre by Artificer, and it's fantastic to see them pick up where Mimimi left off. I very much hope their next entry can ramp up the depth and complexity and produce something even better.

4 stars minus the bugs

This is a a great follow-up from the Mimimi games. Actually, I find the story way better than Shadow Gambit, proving that a supernatural theme can work, when placed in the right setting. It still misses some of the more refined tactical possibilities from Desperados or Aiko though. What I miss the most is that one can't read the dialogue of the heroes. Often I'm planning some setup and at that exact moment someone starts explaining a thing. So I don't know what they were talking about. Unfortunately the game still has quite a lot of (graphic) bugs. Cones that won't go away, even if disabled. Heroes that get stuck behind doors or in mid-air when jumping down. The most annoying is that when you open a saved game, often heroes start walking all on their own, leaving their hiding place with lethal consequences. Four stars it is, minus one for the bugs. But if you like Desperados or Aiko or Blades of the Shogun, this is a welcome addition.

A true gem

I really like this genre and I played the original Commandos when it first came out back in the day. I also played all the games by Mimimi and by chance I stumbled upon Sumerian Six. I'm so glad I bought it! The game took me about 20 hours to finish and I had a blast playing it. The missions are diverse, well designed and I felt there are always multiple ways to solve situations. The special abilities of the characters are really cool and they were a joy to use. The supernatural WW2 vibe and enemies were something different and allowed the devs to implement some over the top stuff like turning one character into a bear. How cool is that! Oh, and clearing a room was always satisfying. The only thing that I missed a little was footprints in the sand/snow to lure enemies.. but it's actually no big deal. The game itself ran very stable, I had no crashes. Quickload and Quicksave are instant and it's super helpful that the quicksave list shows screenshots of the moment the quicksave was taken! These are little QOL things that show how much effort went into the game. Since I'm well used to these games the regular difficulty was sometimes a bit too easy, but overall it allowed me to get into a flow. Maybe it's just the overall trend these days to make games more accessible. It's not a bad thing though.. Commandos was very punishing e.g. and if you want a challenge, you can always ramp up the difficulty. So anyway.. if you're into this niche genre, I can fully recommend this game. It's not expensive and really delivers!
