There's NFSU vibes to it. Just need to check the configuration and controller settings first to let it use my joystick. I hope GOG could get these more of this type of games which is racing games with branded cars.
I can only rate it highly because it's fun, not based on some sci-fi racing nonsense, and involves racing. GoG's racing backlog is more anemic than its genuine horror backlog, and out of the few racing games present, 90% are just random garbage.
This one is actually a racing game, and it's actually fun. Need for Speed Underground? Lol. No. Forza? Nah. I wouldn't even say it's as good as San Francisco Rush or Rush 2049, which were pretty bare-bones arcade racing games.
However, on a platform devoid of good racing experiences, this one's fun, and that's all it really needs to be with the bar set so unbelievably low.
I'm telling ya. GoG could use something like Rush 2049, maybe NFS Underground if they could wrestle the license away, or just literally any praised racing game. I'm surprised some of the good little-dev games haven't gotten on here, but this will do until the day comes, and at 59 cents on sale, you really can't complain. It's like discount NSFU.
This title is really great if your looking for a digital game similar to NFSU2 without having to hunt down a physical copy and downloading a patch to get the game to work (NFSU2) even without the comparison this is just a all around great racing game. A main draw back I mainly notice is the vehicle library does seem to be lacking but at least they still have some decent ones to unlock even if they mostly are just 2-5 different trim models of the same car.
I admit, I never heard of this game posted here until lately. I also do not remember it from other times, as Others have said, looking through GOGs far too small library of racing titles. I'm glad I did notice it finally, that has replays, split-screen, some aspects of Forsa, Project Gotham, and early EA releases, also as Others have mentioned. But, especially that the graphics were even better for 2004 in SRS, than the others mentioned, was the best surprise... Depth-perception is very important for a racing game, to see the curve before hitting a wall; yet on xbox, ps2, gamecube, and pc I played, the others mentioned weren't so good for this. The 3d in SRS is the best I've seen of the time, and highly under-rated especially for this reason, I think: One can better see the road ahead!
So I agree with all of the other positive reviews here. And, though I could do without the unique 'win the girl' element, also for me adds some humorous nostalgia to the game, increased by the fact it's kind of an 'NFS' with TUNER cars at the beginning, like other games I played, when 'Carbon' and others then (that I also STILL have) were like driving blind, and EA wasn't doing something better: I would have bought SRS even at full price if I'd known about it... 5 stars easy -- especially for the price here! Thanks for the memories again, GOG, even a little different than I remember, since I MISSED this one back then... It's a FUN game everyone should have, who likes racers of that time :-)
