My first that I genuinely enjoyed, I love the art style, the combat style, the advertisement style. everything about this game is great, give it a shot!
I purchased this game the day it came out, and was pleased with the gameplay for the most part. I want to like it better but when I play quake, doom, etc...all of those games load up quick, and don't make your computer go slower. I have timed it and between games its 1-2 minute wait even hitting the "quick restart" button. My question is why does this game take so long if you only can get a few minutes into every level. The game itself is neat, but I find myself walking away after hitting quick replay. I don't mind a bit of a wait but I also shouldnt be able to walk away for a few minutes while a game loads..somewhat silly. I would get this when it goes on sale, but to wait for it. Overall, a decent game, the load times kill it for me *amnesia, other games load more quickly*
While not quite the 90's retro FPS Strafe was advertised as, Strafe is still a lot of fun and very good at what it does. Strafe is actually a rouge-like shooter with procedurally generated levels. While gunplay and movement feel very 90s, the randomness of the level design, one life runs, and short length hurt the overall aesthetic.
Soundtrack is really good though, and the game definitely looks the part. Get the game for a well made and fun rogue-like shooter, not if you're looking for a retro 90s FPS.

The only reason I am giving this one star is because I can't give it zero. It is truly a shame because I was hyped for this game. I believed we would get an old-school shooter, Quake style, but comparing this monstrosity to Quake is like comparing a carbage truck to a Porsche.
First of, there is no old-school shooter elements in it. None. When the movement and speed somehow resembled that of Quake, I had my hopes up but other than that it's just a modern shooter trying to immitate old-school and failing miserably. The worst hit detection I have ever seen, hit boxes tinier than that of Counter Strike and the ability to hold only one weapon, with a tiny clip that takes ridiculously long to reload. None of this is old-school. Old-school is all about fast-paced action, spraying bullets and rocket jumping, getting the adrenaline flowing. You will find none of that here.
What kills this game? Roguelike. I could live with the horrible graphics. Yes, horrible. Because Quake at its time looked good. And procedurally generated levels. Ugly, broken levels where the lack of human design is obvious. There are no large open areas here. Mostly corridors where you will back off, firing at a group of enemies, while another magically spawned group of enemies comes behind you and kills you, forcing you to repeat the whole game from the start. Roguelike doesn't belong in a FPS with a limited FOV. Items are ridiculously limited, almost non-existant and nothing is explained in-game about how things work. We have a tutorial, but we wasted it in making fun of moving and jumping, ha ha tutorials are dumb. Far Cry Blood Dragon did this 5 years ago and did it better. Tutorials are there to explain key elements to the game. Even old games had manuals.
If a future patch kills the ridiculous ''oh you got hit out of nowhere, now replay the whole game from the start'' roguelike garbage then maybe it's worth a buy during a discount. But as it is, stay far away from it if you value your money.
