More than just another game mode, the Dynamic Strategic Campaigns are an entire new game within the game.

My favourite real-time strategy game

tl;dr - Steel Division 2 is the best tactical strategy game I have yet played. First, I mostly agree with the other reviews. However, I am not skilled enough to play at a competitive level and I have not yet explored the stratgic modes of the game outside of the tutorial. To keep my contribution to this discussion novel, I want to focus on the following details: -Who is this game for? -What are the unique selling points for this game? -What can I be expected to put into this game to get the most from it? -What is this game missing? -If you are fascinated by the history of WWII but want to get a better understanding of the real-time decision-making process made by high-ranking members of the millitary then this may be for you. If you have played SD:1944 before, you may be interested in the different aspects of combat that come from moving away from hedgerows of Normandy to the more open plains of the Steppes. -Of the WWII titles that I have played, SD2 offers the best real-time tactical experience. Compared to the Wargame franchise, SD feels much more understandable and easier to co-ordinate. For example, the engagement distances are far shorter (typical long-range engagements are 2km (1.2 miles)) and so are the maps. -The game is made up of three main elements: deck composition, tactical gameplay, and strategic gameplay. There are several excellent templates available on Youtube (see RANGROO, VulcanHDGaming etc.) which can be imported immediately. Tactical gameplay can be picked up within an hour by playing the tutorial but will take far longer to excel at (currently I have about 150 hours between SD:1944 and 2, and I am only now taking on hard difficulty AI). -The biggest thing holding back SD2 is the lack of players. If you are interested in 10v10 engagements, be prepared to sit in the multiplayer lobby for a bit. However, the community is also one of the game's best aspects; they are close nit, welcoming, and not short of community events. Please join us!

Fast & unique, multiplayer 100% DRM

The game offers Eugene's special battle field control with seamless zoom for a perfect overview and control of the territory by each unit. This allows encirclements to cut off the enemy. The emphasis is largely on tactics and strategy, but it is not exempt from micro-management. You must also keep an eye out for each unit's limited ammunition and loaded off-load condition. My skirmishes were mostly fast paced and stress free thanks to the live game speed adjusting and the possibility to pause. The big disappointment was the multiplayer part of the game, which is totally behind an online-DRM. No possibility to play LAN games. You are forced to register for an account with Eugenes Systems with your serial key.

Dont buy it unless on sale

The game is decent i have some gripes about balance because german side is a lot stronger, has better units, better stats. The DLC policy is horrendous worse then Paradox and that says something. You cant play certain scenarios unless all parties have it and they cost a lot of money. Most important off all you may get dissconected randomly in game for no obvious reason, again and again. Play 5 min with friends 3v3 dissconected, doesnt say why just disconnect you. Its not just me that keeps getting dissconected problem thera are a lot of people with this problems, I read on the internet for fix, none works and even worse EUGENE doesnt even respond to such querries they keep ignoring it. As it is game is not worth it.

Great Addition to Eugen's line up

Made in a similar style to Wargame, Steel Division 2 manages to beat it mainly for the campaign(s), which was always the weakest part of Wargame You're given an overall operation to command with a few set objectives and the historical units that fought in it down to the brigade level. You can mix and match which units fight in which battle, up to a max of three brigades per battle. For those who like Graviteam, this is a much simpler alternative but far easier to get into and probably slightly less time consuming. Tactical battles take place on a wargame-esque map with a variety of game modes, most revolve around either taking positions or destroying the enemy forces I think the biggest complaint that can be found will be the enemy tactical AI, an issue Eugen has had since European Escalation released I'm not the biggest multiplayer fan so I can't comment on that The game itself looks amazing

Arcade game at heart

This is a very frustrating game that I really want to recommend but I cannot. Note this review applies only to the single player mode as I have no interest in the multiplayer option. At first glance, this appears to be a very promising WW2 strategy game, where you can fight portions of 1944 East Front battles as either the Germans or the Soviets. Orders of battle appear to be researched with great accuracy and the game's visual fidelity is excellent. However, you'll quickly discover this is more of an arcade game than a wargame. A few of the lowlights: every AFV has the same range for its main gun. The AI cheats in an almost comical manner, being able to call in artillery and air strikes with pinpoint accuracy as if it was getting live data from a satellite overhead. It makes up for this cheating with rank stupidity, like driving trucks full of infantry into AT/machine gun kill zones over and over again, leaving a trail of destroyed vehicles back to the edge of the map that the next wave of AI reinforcements will ignore. In nearly every battle you'll get to easily KO the AI's ammo resupply trucks as they follows a short way behind the AI's tanks like lost puppies. Air units are absurdly powerful, due to huge numbers of planes, short resupply times, and pinpoint bomb accuracy. Ground units move too quickly and combat is too fast paced (a regiment sized battle will take significantly less than an hour). There is a bizarre reinforcement point system - instead of being able to deploy your full force as you see fit, you must wait for points to accrue based on a timer, which you then spend on reinforcements. I understand this is for balance in multiplayer but it makes no sense in the single player game. Finally, there are far too few maps. Get ready to see the same 5-10 maps over and over and over again, no matter what scenario you are playing. Make no mistake - there is some popcorn fun to be had here, but don't pay full price.
