Easy strategical, and planning is halv the work. Love the simplicity, but deep mystery to find. Good casual game for listening to audiobooks, or to release some stress
A great - although fairly simple - dig deeper and loot everything kind of game. Very good visuals, practically nonexistent PC requirements, extremely fun! Note that it is very short, though. That said it ends at the point where you might be just getting slightly bored of the gameplay loop, so I would call it a great call on the developers' side. Besides, there's the sequel [SteamWorld Dig 2] that directly continues the story and expands the game a lot in every aspect - more mechanics, more areas, more lore, more freedom of exploration, more characters and so on.
You might be tempted to start with the sequel, but I would recommend to play the first game first - after all, the second part is a direct continuation of this fantastic game. And it's short, so it's not much of a time investment. And I even enjoyed it a bit more for some reason, even though the second game appears improved in every aspect. Both are 5/5 in my book, but this one is more straightforward and this simplicity works in its favor.
One of my all-time favorites from any genre!
Usually I'm not a fan of platformers, mostly because I hate playing the same scene over and over again until I made it (I'm not a very good player :), I prefer funny point&click adventures.
However, I absolutely loved playing this game. It is just the right length, it's not to hard, though challenging, has a great story and adorable graphics.
Especially all the extras and powerups you can buy from the money you earn by mining gemstones are a great way of keeping the game interesting to me. I can absolutely recommend this game!
Thoroughly enjoyed this game. Great old school feel to the gameplay but it feels fresh. Not very deep or long, but not too short. Great balance. I'm really liking the Steamworld franchise. Cool story and characters.
Basically, you dig through levels looking for precious stones, that you then sell and exchange for upgrades. Loads of special levels with plenty of challenges. Great classic boss battle at the end. Plays like a platformer, with jumping, and tunnelling gives a level of startegy to your approach.
Worth a look.
