One final landrush! The planet is dyin', Astrid, and it's dig or die trying!

That mine under our town is sitting empty, and wouldn't you know there's rumours of ancient tech down there that might help us out of this predicament. Round up the posse, circle the wagons, and let's get to buildin' a new home! Collect resources above ground and ores down below so we can get those wealthy bots in here to help us build bigger, and we can get the heck out of here!




As your borders expand, new steamfolk will find their way to you! Every bot is crotchety in their own way, and it's up to you to keep them steaming along. Barter to boost efficiency, keep goods flowing to and from the mines and keep everyone happy to make them work their darndest and hardest.




Stare into the abyss long enough and it might just stare back... we're going looking for riches and something down there doesn't want to share! Have gun, dig gravel, and make sure the mines don't collapse upon you as you defend yourselves from the creepy crawlies that lurk within...

SteamWorld Build is a unique hybrid that entertains for a time. Its early hours are fun, thanks to how well it uses simplified genre staples to create a more arcade-friendly gameplay loop, a sentiment bolstered by a solid tutorial and intuitive control scheme. Regrettably, SteamWorld Build's campaign overstays its welcome. The lackluster story and rigid final objectives turn what was initially an engaging experience into a tedious grind.

Recommended

Super fun. You build up your city of robots, which enables you to explore deeper into the mines. It even has nice voice acting. I remember I did not buy it due to the eula when it released on steam, but now I just set a windows firewall rule to disallow it internet access and it works great.

Really enjoyed it

Gameplay styles dovetail well, the city builder side is not trivial, and it seems like it would be fun to play through multiple times. The story is generic drivel, though.

Anti-consumer trash

The EULA states (which can only be viewed AFTER purchase) this game is licensed to you, not sold. If I had seen that clause during the return window (I have an ever growing backlog lol), then I would have refunded it. If I could give fewer stars I would. This is an unacceptable and disgusting business practice that NO-ONE should support. As a fan of the rest of the Steamworld series, this hurts and disappoints me. Do better Thunderful. This spits in the face of the works from this rest of Image & Form

Stressless

Good graphics music and gameplay. Still learning but there is a helping hand. City builder with different mining levels with different products to mine and other items to find to progress in the story. All good so far.
