Description
In the bloody aftermath of an intergalactic war between powerful alien races, a once-thriving network of starships, space stations, and planets are left lifeless and bear the scars of the apocalypse. As Stationmaster, it is up to you to rebuild the abandoned space stations, reunite the survivors, and bring the old Empire back to its former glory.

Populated by diverse alien species, such as the ecologically-minded and laid back Karmarama or the caring and gentle Dahenese Sirens, each space station comes to life with crime, trade, entertainment, racial tensions, and friendships. With these factors in mind, reconstruct and operate your station by managing the diverseand varied resident aliens while you also protect them against threats such as meteor showers, alien vermin infestations, roving bands of space pirates, and outbreaks of particularly virulent plagues. It’s not easy rebuilding civilization from the ruins, but the future is in your hands. Will you rise up to the challenge and build a Startopia that is ideal for everyone?

  • Nine primary character races, each with a unique look and function. Each inhabitant is an individual character, with unique moods, desires, personal history, and humorous character animations.
  • Fully functioning alien society, with racial animosity and friendships, crime and punishment, leisure and entertainment, and dynamic functioning economy.
  • Bio-deck with editable landscape and manageable ecosystem gives you complete control of terra-forming.

One of my favourite games. Period.

I still have the disc. This game is fantastic. It's smart, unpredictable, and witty. Every entity has its own personality. You can interact directly or indirectly. It was a game way before its time. So glad it's released on GoG!!

Well...

The good: It is fun Diversity of tasks and situations good Interesting twist The bad Never got a good feel for the interface and the controls However, all in all I feel its a "theme hospital" type game done at another location. If you loved theme hospital, you'll like this one as well, but in the end find theme hospital better.

A true gem

Without a doubt, this is my single most favourite older game. Quirky characters, chucklesome voice-acting, interesting missions, addictive station/layout editing. Everything hangs in a great overall balance and a silky-smooth difficulty ramp. Even the arcing station rotation feels fresh. I can only wonder why more games weren't made with such imaginative, polished, experimental themes such as this. The best way to describe this to someone who has never played, would be to ask them to imagine Theme Park, but in space, with aliens as staff and as visitors... and that your theme-park is also a hotel, a research centre, a hospital, a prison, a shopping district, a garden, a shrine, and a military base. Yep! This game does so many things right. Even managing your cargo by hand is a little joy. Rather than simply buying your desired items from the UI, you buy the blueprints (or sometimes pre-fabs) from traders, and then pick their various colour-coded crates out of a big automated rack for deployment. A big automated rack that you must also build, and can organise by hand, I might add. Maybe I am picking on all the dumbest things to talk about, but really, this game is just stuck in a giant happy haze in my mind. Man, I kinda want to go reinstall it and play it AGAIN now...
