Description

Freely explore the fallen kingdom!

Return to the style of 16-bit JRPGs in Starlight Legacy, a non-linear adventure inspired by genre classics! Set in a post-medieval world in the Evaria Kingdom, explore a vast kingdom created with lush 2D pixel art, a nostalgic turn-based battle system and non-linear story where the four provinces of the kingdom can be explored in any order of your choosing.

In Starlight Legacy, the four provinces of the Evaria Kingdom have lived in peace and prosperity for decades, thanks to the Eternity Tree that enriches and purifies the soil, water, and air of the entire kingdom. But a ban on the education of magic has caused unrest, leading to the rise of a separatist movement to liberate the Sky Province from Evaria.

The warriors Ignus and Teryl embark on a quest to deliver a sword requested by the king, but shortly after they embark, a devastating attack causes the Eternity Tree to whither. Ignus and Teryl now face the task of restoring the Eternity Tree to save the kingdom. And so begins a great journey through a seamlessly interconnected fantasy world!

Search for powerful relics to restore the withered Eternity Tree!

Explore provinces in any order, with enemies and bosses scaled according to your overall progress.

Travel between towns, dungeons and field environments seamlessly with no load times.

Immerse yourself in a retro JRPG that mixes old-school 2D aesthetics with modern advancements!

Engage in menu driven turn-based combat inspired by genre classics.

Take to the skies in 3D flight sequences to quickly traverse the overworld map!

Extremely charming retro JRPG!

I love this game. It has so much charm and you can literally feel the love the developer put into the game. The music is fantastic and was one of the reasons why I bought it after playing the demo. It really feels like a game from the 16 bit era, not just a homage. Like a forgotten classic from the 90s, similar to the first Final Fantasy games. The story is your classic "find the relics" but it has some nice plot twists (I haven't finished it until now.). The fighting system is simple, yet effective. It is turn based with special abilities, summon, status effects, a rage meter and a lot of cool items. The game even has some metroidvania elements where you need items like a hammer or a flying carpet to progress. The graphics are lovely with some nice effects like snow or footprints in the sand and capture that 90s Super Nintendo feeling perfectly. You can even fly in 3D with a dragon. There were some minor issues but the developer fixed them immediately. Thanks a lot for that. I wonder why there are no reviews. The game deserves much more attention. I hope it does well and we see a sequel. All in all if you like JRPGs, especially from the 90s, or the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, you will love Starlight Legacy. Just buy it, it's fantastic.

Nice but very generic Jrpg

The game is enjoyable for a Jrpg fan, but there's no great charm to it because everything is so generic. Every tier 1 weapon have the same stat value for its stat, same for every tier 2, then tier 3... There are a few elemental and debuff weapon, but they are all tier 2. The world also has a generic shape (no spoiler, but it's not round). The skill list is 95% similar between each character. Even if you can explore each region in the order you want, it doesn't change much aside for which transport mean you get first (I unfortunately got warp last). There's numbered chest; which intice to backtrack but it's not worth it in the end (shop item at that point). One bad point : debuffs are super potent, rendering bosses a cakewalk in one ATK- cast. I didn't use ATK debuffs as soon as I understood that. There's one very good point : you can turn off combat, if you want to explore (insted of running away 100 times). I might try a low level run. I gave ir four stars because of that. Generic game, but okay enough to be enjoyable for a jrpg amateur.
