Great, but not perfect for Macs

Tie fighter is fantastic fun, and while the graphics have obviously dated a lot over the past 20 years it's still just as much fun to play as it was in the 90s. However, Mac users BE WARNED - while the pack does include the original 1995 collectors' CD-ROM edition, it DOES NOT include the 1998 version which added X-Wing v Tie Fighter's enhanced graphics engine and orchestral sound track. This version is available for Windows users, but not for us, for some reason GOG has yet to explain... Any chance you could do a port guys? This pack really isn't complete without it!

AWESOME

Enough said about the greatness of these games. But is it just me or is TIE Fighter (1994) lacking speech? It seems that it's not the Collector`s CD Edition which came out for Win95 in those days. The Intro in the DOS gog Version is slightly different (no Super Star Destroyer, different angles and animations) and.. there is so much spoken text left out (briefing, ingame chatter). Please clarify me..?

The Imperial Navy Wants You!

What can I say about this game that hasn't been said a thousand times? Not much really. It enabled you to play as the bad guys which was almost unprecedented. I remember my first time bringing the game home, installing it and going into it. First there was an, at least at the time, amazing cutscene with Vice Admiral Thrawn and you realized that this was going to be special. I got into the game, flew my first TIE Fighter, gawked at the beauty of the gouraud shading and relished in flying around and taking on that pesky rebel scum with as much enthusiasm as I had when taking on those vile imperials in X-Wing. You soon learned that the TIE Fighter really is an eggshell of a craft so you have to fly it well or you're dead, but soon you'll also be flying TIE Interceptors and TIE Bombers and then you get even more craft to fly as you go along in the Campaigns. What you do as an imperial is a lot more nuanced than the way they are portrayed in the movies. It's very much a matter of order and one of the campaigns is all about bringing order and peace to this system(by force if necessary) which is embroiled in a civil war between the Dimoks and the Ripoblus and you are sent to escort convoys on both sides, gather intelligence and generally maintain an impeial presence in this Outer Rim system. There are also some rather cool sidestories involving the Order of the Emperor and traitors to the Empire. It's a great game, it can be difficult at times, but it's rewarding and I think it's a "must have" for any Star Wars fans who are also into flight sims or space flight games.

Like riding a bike...

I havent played this game in LITERALLY 20 years. Installed it now, and went into the first mission, and I started to hit keys in the keyboard as if not a day had passed, adjusting energy levels from shields and guns, going 2/3 maximum speed, targeting closest enemy, sending my wingman to atack... I havent forgotten a single key. The thing is, I thought I would have to check for some help somewhere, cause I "thought" I didnt remember... but I did. Amazing how your body "remembers" things you have done so much for so many happy hours in the past, it´s like riding a bike. So, it seems that riding a tie fighter is like riding a bike after so many years. And the game looks GOOD, I dont know how much nostalgia googles I have on, but the 1995 CD version is the best of the pack, above all because of the "interactive" soundtrack. If you have the slightest taste for flight sims and starwars and you havent played this one, do yourself a very big favor and buy this one.

Must buy!

The original Tie Fighter on floppy discs was my first space sim game and one of my first few PC games. This game captured the feeling of flying a Tie Fighter for the empire in deep space. It made me go through each mission uncovering the secret objectives to please the emporer and killing every rebel scum I could find! Get a joystick and this will provide hours of Tie Fighter greatness. It is a solid space sim game and, needless to say, gets Star Wars right. There are missions to search and destroy a squad of enemy fighters, defend another ship, defend a capital, attack a capital... it really never gets old.
