STAR WARS™ Starfighter™

The original PS2 release of Star Wars: Starfighter is a beloved classic. But this PC port of it was terrible even when it first came out, and time has not been kind to it. It doesn't seem to commit to either PC or gamepad controls, and it somehow seems to run worse than the PS2 even on modern hardware. If you want to play Starfighter on a modern PC - and you should - then use an emulator, and not this terrible port.

Comment out any references to "shake," and this will disable the abhorrent screen shaking when you take damage. You're welcome.

This is a neat, fun, well put together little game rendered almost unplayable by one of the most irritating and baffling design decisions I've ever come across. Taking fire doesn't deal much damage, and enemies aren't overwhelmingly accurate - but every hit applies a stagger, throwing the nose of your craft around violently. This breaks almost every encounter and means some missions are a matter of blind luck as to whether you get your nose thrown into a canyon wall entirely arbitrarily.

First of all, if you're having problems with excessive camera shake when boosting or getting hit, then limiting frame rate to 30 FPS will solve the issue. Aside from that little technical blunder, it's a pretty awesome title from a long series of space shooters and space combat sims with a Star Wars logo on them. I'd even say that it's one of the more underrated games in this vein. To me, it never stopped being very easy to pick up and have fun with. Perhaps it isn't the most memorable Star Wars game (which I mostly blame on bland story and the fact that it's set around the events of The Phantom Menace), but I'm sure that younger Star Wars fans who have bigger appreciation for the prequels might still find this highly enjoyable. I definitely recommend to try it out!

This game is great, and tons of fun! They need to get their hands on the sequel, which annihilates this one in terms of fun!
