Absolutly stunning

A game this old (2005) having ok graphics ,flawless bugfree rich diverse gameplay , linear storyline with a GREAT SQUAD and I love it! It was absolutly great to be the squad leader and live through the star wars timeline, impact the world and have fun destroying cruisers. It runs smoothly on kinda and PC. Runs absolutly great on windows 10. I will have some extremly important advice for your gameplay: X is for dark vision. F is for hacking , planting explosives , for detonating explosives and for a squad to use that cover or hack/explode something. F1 is squad command to go on offensive mode. F2 is Group on me. F3 is defend this location. Now you wont have any problem through the campaign. I only can dream of remaking this game and adding lots of colectables, skins and everything.

This game should get more attention

Republic Commando is a tactical FPS and follows the story of "Delta Squad", a famous group of clone troopers as they went through increasingly dangerous missions. The player controls a squad leader and give order to 3 squad members. Sadly they take place only in 3 different locations, each with unique atmosphere. However there are lengthy non repetitive set of missions which requires your cooperation with all squad members, each with their own specialities. Their expertise however made little impact in the gameplay (but you could see different verbal reactions from them as they do it) Giving command is a simple task (by pressing one button at a specific target) and required for the AI to take specific stance or action. You only need to pay attention to the surrounding and any available member will affirm and execute your command intelligently as you move on your own. They have their own AI which enable them to just position themselves (very strategically almost all the time) without your command. When you are incapacitated the other team member can revive you as commanded and/or when they can, and vice versa. The interactions among all these 4 as the game progressed and you issue commands are just fantastic and give a distinct personality to each characters. Sadly this game has a little replay value. The missions are designed to give players different challenges but by no means frustrating. You will be forced most of the time to look for covers, amunitions, opportunity to give and change commands, weapons drop and to prioritize your actions. There is however one solution in each case and with no story related consequence. There are also no exciting unlockables or achievement (only few extras as you completed different each location). Verdict: + Great AI (teammate and enemies) + Creative level design + Characters interactions + Simple command + Varied weapon drops and enemies + Awesome sound effect + NO BUGS - Linear gameplay - Few locations - No reward

Ultimately frustrating and short

There is not much I can say that other people have not already mentioned. Yes, this is a Star Wars themed fps set during the clone wars. No, it is not a revolutionary fps and plays quite typical to corridor shooters of the past, but with an emphasis on teamwork. The A.I is not smart and always requires further placement behind cover. As opposed to Brothers in Arms, whose A.I was quite intelligent, Republic Commando felt more like a chore having to babysit your clone troopers. Very little in the form of self preservation on account of the bad A.I, you are constantly telling them what to do and where to go. Headshots and grenades are a must on higher difficulty, but a lot of gunfights devolve to spray and pray tactics because the npc's take an incredible amount of ammo to kill, an upwards of 12 to 15 rounds sometimes. Ammo caches are placed sparingly around the maps, so expect to be pulling out your weak pistol to dispatch enemies every so often. There is a big difference between frustrating gameplay and challenging gameplay, unfortunately this game falls more towards the former. However, I quite enjoyed the graphical fidelity and detailed textures/ character models. No performance issues or crashing on my MBP utilizing Wine. If you must, grab it while its on sale.

Good Star Wars FPS tactical game.

I remeber trying the Demo of this game years ago, and liked what I saw, but I refused to buy it due to over-the-top DRMs that threat the buyer like a criminal. Anyway, `patience is indeed a virtue` as one of my Clone buddies would say as now I can play it chain free off GOG. Wonderful. And it was well worth the wait. You play an elite squad Commander of a you and 3 others, all born and raised together- A literal Band of Brothers. then are tasked to deal with tough separatist problem everywhere, The game plays in a suprisingly realistic way. It reminds me a lot of Swat (and I believe the Devs actually took real world military advice for the game). Your men all have specialists skills and know how to kill the enemy. They will use cover, heal themselves and even advise on best tactics. Of course you are in control and can designate them to key locations for best fire power; tell them to go forward, stay back, hold position, regroup, use covers, use weapons, hack computers, set traps, heal. If you get shot down, someone will come and heal you if he can unless it`s too hectic, but you can force him to heal you, sometimes it`s best to let them finish the battle. There`s also some character to each of the `brothers`. One is a surly sniper killer who has a slight unhealthy love of killing, another likes blowing things and another likes fireworks! You`ll understand when you play, he`s quite funny. Battles are frenetic and engaging with one or two slower `stealth` levels, but nothing that holds up the action for long. The sounds are all authentic Star wars, including the music- Very immersive. Graphics are not top notch now, but still very respectable and should run on most reasonable pcs no problem. I enjoyed the Campaign and the story, but was very disappointed with the end. It never really came to a satisfying conclusion. It just ended. That`s the reason why i dock one star. It really let a great game down. However, I still recommend the game to Starwars and even non Starwars fps shooter fans.

Maybe for its time

I remember playing it back when it came out and enjoying it, I enjoyed the heck out of the music in the menus, the gunplay, but never got too far into the game, I don't know why. So I decided waaay after, to buy it again, and give it another chance. The game sadly has a couple of problems in regards with some technical issues that are easily solved by installing a mod that you can find under the name "graphics fix" it adds mouse sensitivity options, widescreen support, fov options, fixes the problems with bumapping, its a great mod, and an essential install for playing this game on current systems. Now... When it comes to the game is where my problems start. The game is just too hard, and for all the wrong reasons, the squad A.I its just not good enough to keep up with the array of enemies the game throws at the player, the enemies don't stop, ever, they just keep coming, and coming, and coming, it would be fine if only you had the ammo to withstand the hordes of enemies that you're battling against. But sadly half of the times the game throws this very powerful enemies at you that cause a ton of damage and take a ton of bullets to kill, the only reasonable way there is to defeat them is by picking up some of their own weapons and using them against them, but the problem is in order to do that you need to defeat at the very least one to begin with, then you can attack the rest of them, with the hope that the ammo of the enemies weapon will last. This ended up destroying the game for me given that my teamates kept getting killed, I tried all sorts of difficulties but it didn't mattered, trying to revive your teamates in the middle of a group of enemies is suicide, you die almost immediately and there's no way to do anything against it, because as I said, the enemies don't stop... And then the A.I. at times wouldn't follow me, other times it would just rush further away from me, kept getting killed... It's just meh...
