Dark Forces Essential Fixes 5/2018

There's a couple of issues with the game version set-up as of May, 2018. First there doesn't seem to be a link to access settings for custom key-binding after install. Some forums online even direct people to use a Hex Editor to modify the setting file which is ridiculous. Just copy the Dark Forces desktop link and right-click & goto [Properties] and in the section where it says [-conf "..dosbox_DF_single.conf"] change that to [-conf "..dosbox_DF_settings.conf"] and click [OK] Now when you open that link it will open the DOS Settings and you can modify some of the keys & mouse buttons. Second: The default framerate is so low that playing the game can cause a type of motion sickness. There's not really much of a workaround to this but I found.. If you navigate to the game install directory and open [dosbox_DF.conf] with Notepad or a text-editor, then scroll down to [Render] and change as follows: frameskip=2 aspect=true scaler=hq3x This [scaler] will blend pixels to make them look smoother and the [frameskip] seems to help a small bit by making the rendered game jump less. I've noticed an improvement anyway. I also recommend changing [fullscreen=false] under [sdl] .. you can always toggle between full-screen and windowed using [Alt + Return]. Lastly is fixing mouse look and mouse buttons (default game settings have limited options) I recommend checking out: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Dark_Forces#Modern_control_scheme_.2B_v-look_for_mouse_.28DOSBox.29 and https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=286364447

The Real "Rogue One" Story

This is the real story of the rebel heroes prior to New Hope. Forget everything you saw in that Disney movie and enjoy good characters and a fun story about the heroes of the Rebel Alliance. It might be dated when it comes to graphics, but is complimented with good gameplay and just a lot of old school FPS fun.

A Classic Star Wars Tale

I vividly remember messing around with the sound card config for hours trying to trick it into not crashing back on our old PC in the 90s and the elation I felt at succeeding, only to discover an amazing game that has stuck with me for ages. The story of mercenary Kyle Katarn, who works in secret behind the scenes of the Star Wars original trilogy in shady bars and shadow ops. You'll get an assortment of Star Wars gadgets and weapons, of course, and take on a great selection of levels that will have you in criminal underbellies, secret imperial bases, and basically taking a tour of the SW universe. So good. This is one that doesn't get mentioned at all anymore and it's a real shame - very much a Doom clone in many regards, but with the Star Wars setting, weapons, and soundtrack. Everyone should give it a shot at least once to see what kind of high quality mark was set back in the 90s when this came out.

A masterpiece

I played through this game using the force engine which is an open source reimplementation of the original game engine, it works great. This game is a classic, definitely needs to be experienced by Star Wars fans. Even if you are not a Star Wars fan, this is still a very good first person shooting game.
