Really good FPS game with a great and creative Star Wars flavour.
It’s perfectly playable through DosBox/Boxer on a Mac – so I don't really see why GOG isn’t offering that as well.
This was one of my favorite games growing up. I can't remember how many times I've played this game.
It's easy to write off this game as a Doom clone, but it's good in its own right. Dark Forces also set up for the Jedi Knight series with Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors. It's also unique in that you don't play as a Jedi.
The graphics and controls do feel a bit dated, but I feel that it aged better in some ways than Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith
If you are a Star Wars fan you should consider playing this game.
Show of hands! Who’s here has already seen Rogue One, the new Star Wars™ movie? Wow, all of you? I shouldn’t be surprised; it’s freaking STAR WARS™ after all!
As you all know, Rogue One is the story of how the Rebel Alliance got their hands in the Death Star plans. But in the old canon (before Disney bought the rights to Star Wars™ and decreed the Expanded Universe as non-canon), those plans were stolen by perhaps the most famous character outside the movies: Kyle Katarn. In fact, you do just that right on the 1st level of Dark Forces (which was basically the demo).
Yes, there’s a Star Wars™ Doom clone. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! GO AND PLAY IT!
… I suppose I should tell you more about it.

Good memories here. This game was really amazing back then, it's a pain I can't play Dark Forces any more because about 30 minutes of playing it makes me feel very dizzy. A classic old school Star Wars FPS without lightsabers and Force powers. This was well... better than Doom in my opinion. Same controls, but you could jump and crouch, look up and down, which was rare back in the day.
I think the game's strongest part is the well designed levels- great atmosphere, especially from 4th level where you need to get Crix Madine out of an imperial prison facility. Then, you need to infiltrate an Imperial Research Facility, visit Nar Shaddaa, which is another hive of scum and villainy, escape Jabba's ship, board the Executor imperial ship- loved to see Tie Fighters leaving the ship's hangar there.
The story is no big deal, definetely not the strongest point of this game in my opinion. It' about the Empire comes up with a new very dangerous weapon, the Dark Trooper, and tries to conquer the entire galaxy. Your mission to find and destroy the Arc Hammer, where the Dark Troopers are being manufactured.
Enemies are usually dumb, you mostly do target practice, except the spots where you got a lot of them, sometimes they even surprise you. Sounds and music work also pretty well, the game uses the classic iMuse music system, which debuted in Monkey Island 2.
If you don't get dizzy and you are ok with the dated graphics, buy this classic - there are some downloadable graphics mod online which improves the graphics a lot, with those installed, the game can be upgraded to a higher resolution, and modern controls instead of the old Doom controls.
Great Game!!! Complete and still entertaining if a little bit dated. My old copy of the game hasn't run for years I'm so happy to have found it again. If your looking for an excellent Original Doom Clone for Star Wars, Look No Further. In this day and age of Monetization
it's good to know GOG is around to provide Great Games, DRM Free just like the Good Old Days.
