Timeless Classic

First the downsides: the AI isn't spectacular even on Elite (and you should be playing on Elite because on Normal they essentially huff glue in a corner while on Elite they're sometimes competent), it lists more resolutions than it actually supports (as far as I know it only supports 4:3 and 5:4 ratio resolutions, the highest being 1600x1200, anything else causes distortions), and no matter how much you tweak the sensitivity starships aren't going to turn very well with mouse and keyboard. On top of that there is little to no narrative outside of the campaign, which is completely linear but enjoyable. Now with all the bad done with it's time to get to the many pros that outweigh the cons: the combat is intense, you will die, but it's not painfully frustrating when you do. There are moments where you will struggle to turn the tide of conflict as the enemy faction mows down your men, there are also moments where you will feel like an avatar of death itself slaying countless foes. Vehicles respond well for the most part, driving an AT-AT or AT-ST never gets old, and the space battles are awesome so long as you get beyond the annoying turning with a mouse. Your stats are tracked between each engagement allowing you to see your kills ,death, how many medals you've earned toward a certain action (when you earn enough you unlock temporary upgrades in-game) and are unique to each individual profile. That's right, it's one of those old games where you can make individual profiles! If you're expecting an amazing narrative or some sort of deep political message you won't find it here, this is a war game, about playing your favorite team, leading them to victory, and having a lot of fun doing so without feeling obliged to engage in Facebook game muckamuck like in Inquisition or Battlefield.

This game still holds up in 2023

I would also recommend downloading the Remaster mod for HD graphics.

Still strong in 2019

This game still has servers with players in 2019! You connect and jump right into the action, choose a class, there are usually around 6 classes, 4 you can choose any time and 2 more that are locked behind points - points earned by playing well, meaning that if you capture a spawn point or do a lot of damage and kills you will earn them during play. No loot cards-boxes-500USD-daily-subscription-lifetime-premium-cashing-in-season-pass-fee, just a great game. Great? Yeah, really great! Not only can you choose your classes rather freely, also heroes are available from the start (depending on server settings, usually timed and randomly dished out). Still you can just go to any vehicle and drive it and usually more than one person can drive around and man the turrets or whatever. And not only that: you start in a huge star destroyer, you run to the hangar, get either a tie fighter, tie intercepter, tie bomber .... then you fly over to the enemy friggate or star ship and bomb their comm. array, thrusters, shields ... OR just land in their hangar and steal a ship or run to their energy core and destroy the entire ship. Yeah, it is all there IN ONE MAP with bots around and players. It is a huge all out warefare, fun as hell since you can really do all you want to do. Try it, it is better than the latest games that came out by a rather sinister publisher... Thank GOG for making this a great cross-plattform (Steam and GOG together) playable game again!

Masterpiece.

It has Tons of content and infinite replayability + it is better than the EA ones. And no DRM, so totally worth it.The game is old but it is great and it really makes you feel like a clon of the 501. + U can add 32 vs 32 in 700 vs 700 battles. + U can just have 300 vs 300 battles which is epic. +The space battles are great u can even land on the enemies ship hangar and steal their ships. +Galactic Conquest [Epic game mode] + Capture the flag in land or in space. + Ewok hunt[or other species] + Cool combat + reward weapons and u can customize your controls however u want. + Makes u feel like and op jedi/sith The only 'bad' thing that this game has is the graphics but if u don't care/bother about that then this is a gem that u must have or at least try.

Great action game with balance issues

Battlefront 2 is one of the most entertaining (yet annoying) games I’ve ever played. The action is fast and furious, and the music makes it feel like you’ve been dropped right in the middle of a Star Wars movie. It also has plenty of variety - thanks to a wide range of maps, two eras (the prequel and original trilogies), and multiple character classes to play. It’s not perfect though. If you play single-player, you will soon notice that the AI is mediocre. I have often observed both friendly and enemy units standing idle, or running around in circles, or otherwise doing nothing helpful. An experienced player will shred through AI units with almost no trouble at all. That leaves multiplayer, which is cool but problematic. If you’re new to the game, you will get clobbered by much more experienced human players, who have no qualms about killing you 10 times in a row using the meanest tactics they know. Newbies beware, in other words. The game’s balance issues also become more apparent in multiplayer. For example, units with jet packs are almost comically overpowered - Dark Troopers can drop out of the sky and kill you with a single shot, which doesn’t feel right. Most vehicles are overpowered, too (except AT-ATs, which are weak for some reason). Meanwhile, heroes seem very threatening at first, but can be easily beaten once you figure out a few tricks. On the whole, I enjoyed this game…for a few months. But I deleted it in frustration after encountering one too many almost-unbeatable experts on multiplayer (some of whom are clearly exploiting bugs - I got shot through walls sometimes!) It’s fun and frustrating at the same time - and probably best reserved for veteran players who figured out all its tricks in 2005.
