Timeless Classic
First the downsides: the AI isn't spectacular even on Elite (and you should be playing on Elite because on Normal they essentially huff glue in a corner while on Elite they're sometimes competent), it lists more resolutions than it actually supports (as far as I know it only supports 4:3 and 5:4 ratio resolutions, the highest being 1600x1200, anything else causes distortions), and no matter how much you tweak the sensitivity starships aren't going to turn very well with mouse and keyboard. On top of that there is little to no narrative outside of the campaign, which is completely linear but enjoyable. Now with all the bad done with it's time to get to the many pros that outweigh the cons: the combat is intense, you will die, but it's not painfully frustrating when you do. There are moments where you will struggle to turn the tide of conflict as the enemy faction mows down your men, there are also moments where you will feel like an avatar of death itself slaying countless foes. Vehicles respond well for the most part, driving an AT-AT or AT-ST never gets old, and the space battles are awesome so long as you get beyond the annoying turning with a mouse. Your stats are tracked between each engagement allowing you to see your kills ,death, how many medals you've earned toward a certain action (when you earn enough you unlock temporary upgrades in-game) and are unique to each individual profile. That's right, it's one of those old games where you can make individual profiles! If you're expecting an amazing narrative or some sort of deep political message you won't find it here, this is a war game, about playing your favorite team, leading them to victory, and having a lot of fun doing so without feeling obliged to engage in Facebook game muckamuck like in Inquisition or Battlefield.
