Nice puzzler. Who cares about hornes?

This game might not be historically correct in terms of the appearance of the vikings but the vikings werent in space anyway. So, who cares? :D This game is a nice puzzler with some rpg elements. The rules are easy to learn but the game is difficult to master. Your vikings always have to go on their lanes from the left to the right, not being able to switch lanes. The goals of the single levels are always different. For example to kill 40 enemies or to survive 4 waves of enemies and so on, so it's not always necessary to kill all enemies. You always have to fit your gamestyle according the goals you have to reach. Some levels also have modifieres, like every enemy has +1 life and so on. After the few tutorial levels the following levels will be randomly generated. This might be sometimes good and sometimes bad because the same level can be sometimes easier and sometimes harder. But on the other hand the replay value of a single level is higher and replaying levels is necessary to earn gold and experience poits to upgrade your vikings for the upcoming, harder levels. You also have to try to get as much gold and loot as you can. In your backpack you can collect items which can be also be purchased in shops for some gold. These items help you in the levels by for exmple recharging a special ability of a viking. Every viking has special ablities, which can be improved as they get more experience, like in a rpg game. An ability is for example to remotely activate a trap or to push an enemy one square in an specific direction. New vikings can be hired with gold. Some levels even require a viking with a specific ability, so you have to look where you can hire them. Also the enemies has different ablities and different behaviours when it comes to attacking. So you have to study them first and look how you can trigger a chainreaction. The game also has story. It's a nice extra to have one in a puzzle game but it's not really important. I like this game.

Bright puzzly fun!

Awesome, silly themed game with a good bit of head scratching and progression and not too grindy. I had way more fun and time from this than many more expensive games but I think I got it for about $5. Yes it feels like a phone or tablet game but I enjoyed it on a TV from the couch (like many of my games). I loved the music too; it still occasionally pops up in my head months after playing it. If you see it on special. pick it up. Maybe check out the demo to see if you like the style first.

RNG Vikings

It's not a bad game, but it relies heavily on RNG to artificially inflate the difficulty. Every map has random enemies in random positions, but your characters start with the same stats and same postions each time. All the upgrades are 'on chance' as well. You 'might' get more energy after a kill. You 'might' cause an explosion on attack. You 'might' cause an effect. It's very reminiscent of mobile games that force you to replay the same levels over and over again until you get the right string of random occurances in your favor. There's very little 'tactical' skill involved. When you choose to restart the level, the enemy positions are the same, but you don't get your items back! You also have a very low money cap which means you'll just be grinding levels over and over again to rebuy items only to get back to your starting position. The dialogue is cute, but hardly makes an effort to be funny. I cracked a smile here and there, but never laughed. The art style is simple, but cute and has a bit more flair than what you might see in a mobile game (again, the game feels very similar to a mobile game). I played for a few hours, but couldn't find myself wanting to continue.

Addictive casual puzzler with RNG

Star Vikings Forever is a port of an iOS game, but don't let that deter you. It's the upgraded version of Star Vikings. It's a throwback to 80 Saturday morning cartoons with silly dialogs and characters and a clever puzzler. You're the Star Vikings and get elbroiled in a weird story involving space snails and Ragnarok (because of course) because of an idol mistaken for a table wedge. In each level, you have to clear a path for your vikings, each is on their own lane and must move forward, but enemies can and will attack. Some vikings can switch lanes using a special power though, which can help find shortcuts. You can have up to 5 vikings on screen and and their powers can synergize in interesting ways, setting up and racking big combos for extra XP. XP is used to level up, gold to buy items, skills and recruit new vikings. Every level is has RNG based NPC placement (which can be reset by exiting back to the map and re-entering) and some levels use extra modifiers (more enemy health or damage, random damage on screen, traps even later on) to keep you on your toes. The mission can be defeat X waves, kill X enemies, open X chests and so on. Mission is per level and doesn't change. The game also has daily missions for extra XP/gold/fuel (which opens chapters and allows to roll for hats later on -hats which grant extra boons you'll want like more energy, XP increase or damage boost). The recruitment stations reset every 24 hours, so new charactrers with interesting perks can always be found. While the gameplay is simple, clearing a screen is always satisfying and the game has that click that makes you want to play one more level. The various classes and their different builds also keep things interesting. If anything, favour monobuilds (ie if you get a certain upgrade, double down if available) to increase you chances of passive bonuses. For the price you'll get hours of a very fun timesink with neat mechanics and fine jokes. I've been going back to it regularly.

An entertaining 2D game

The goal of this game is to defeat an army of snails. There are several worlds and a lot of levels to play. The game has 2D graphics but it is really entertaining, and I have been able to finish it well. It has the ideal amount of difficulty.
