Description
Based on a strategy board game, Star Fleet Battles, Star Trek™: Starfleet Command Gold Edition puts you in the captain's chair of a frigate. Each successful mission gains you prestige and furthers your career. Experience a 30 year campaign that can take you as far as becoming a Rear Admiral in control of a task force including Destroyers, Heavy Cruisers, and Dreadnoughts.
Discover uncharted Nebulae, maneuver through dense asteroid fields and belts or battle at the fringe of a black hole. The different types of terrain require commanders to exercise additional caution and skill. Maneuver to keep your target within the arc of your weapons, but remember that these are massive ships and you will have to plan ahead. Between campaign missions refit and repair your ships at Starbase. Recruit new officers or send your trainees back into the officer pool to earn additional prestige.
Command over 50 unique campaign missions generated by the Dynaverse engine, or reenact classic scenarios from the original series.
Pledge allegiance in the Klingon Empire, the United Federation of Planets, the Romulan Star Empire, the Hydran Kingdom, the Gorn Confederation or the Lyran Star Empire.
Gold Edition features an additional 3 new Federation missions, 3 new Klingon missions, 10 new Hydran missions 7 new Gorn missions, 3 new Romulan missions, and more!
First off locate the "config.exe", "sfc.exe", and "Starfleet.exe" files. Next set the compatibility settings as follows: Run in Windows XP service pack 3; check the run as admin and disable display scaling on high DPI settings boxes. Now open the "config.exe" file and set the video to software and the resolution to 800x600. Run the game and enjoy!
This was one of my favorite games when it came out 15 years ago and thank GOG has picked it up! Now to see if they can get SFC 2: Empires at War and Orion Pirates.
This cured my ills. A D7 just completely destroyed my Fed CA because I forgot which button to press to charge weapons and such. But it worked, all the way to the end of the scenario.

I loved this game when I was a kid, and was definitely ready to see this come up on GOG. With a few tweaks it can run on Windows 10 and 8:
You have to edit the sfc.ini file to change async=0 under the mouse section. Then you have to run the config.exe and choose "primary display driver" then a resolution instead of your graphics card. That's been a bug since i've been playing the game (since about 2002).
I was a fan as a kid as I still am. I'm a trekkie at heart, but I always loved looking at Starfleet Battles and even the old STCS (Starship Tactical Combat Simulator) that was ported to XP from DOS and Amiga. This game captures the same ideas of that game, just in real time. It makes you think on your feet and plays out a small story for you to enjoy. The story is small though, but it lets you take the conn and make your own way, your own stories, be your own captain. The combat is wonderful but the controls take some time to master, especially if you like to use the advanced options such as Electronic Warfair or defensive tractor beams. I always recomend anyone who likes star trek to start with this game in the series, as it was the best in my opinion. Not to say the other games weren't great... they have their points too. They just don't have as open of a campaign as this one, nor do they have you pitted against the giant space monsters, the Terrain Empire or stuck in a no win-scenario quite the same way as this one. Its worth the price to play again even at 15 years later for myself.
I just did some of the things that Langrisser_V suggested in their review.
Locate the "config.exe", "sfc.exe", and "Starfleet.exe" files.
Set the compatibility settings as follows: Run in Windows XP service pack 3, then check the run as admin.
Run Config.exe and set your resolution to software (800x600 works for me.)
I used to play tabletop Starfleet Battles a long time ago, this is a fun re-creation of that in PC game form.
