Star Trek™: Starfleet Academy

When I got my own PC at my house, I bought this game. I loved it. It has a smell of old Wing Commander games.... With its FMVs and design... But it also has the charm of TME Star Trek... With William Shatner reprising the role of James T. Kirk; and George Takie and Walter Koenig reprising their roles of Hikaru Sulu and Pavel Chekov respectively - all of them had brought the nostalgia of Undiscovered Country that lies ahead,..

I have no idea why people heap praises on this thing. Maybe back in the day it was good because it was all we had, but today I find it terrible. It is incredibly confusing. I couldn't even get past the first mission because I had no idea what to do. Target their Phasers? How? "f" to lower power? I did and still destroyed it. Why did my Phasers and Photons suddenly stop working (repair says they are fine) and now I'm running out of life support? What do I do? Maybe if you completely understand what you are supposed to do the game can be fun, but it seems to me that the learning curve is way too large for beginners.

This game is a pile of garbage. If you want a competent starship simulator, go back a few years to Rules of Engagement 1 and 2, or to this game's sequel, Klingon Academy. Here, the story is bananas, the missions are plodding and dull, and, worst of all, the starships fly like fighters in a Wing Commander game. Just a waste of time and potential.

I played this game over and over. Could be quite tough at times I had the 5 disk pack. But downloaded years later and you couldn't aim phasers at a single system instead of the whole ship. I hope gog has got this function. Can't wait to play it again.
