Arguably the best Star Trek game!
It has been repeated so often by now, I will probably sound like a parrot but... THIS IS THE BEST STAR TREK VIDEO GAME, easily beating 25th Anniversary, A Final Unity and the RTS- and FPS-offerings. First things first, let me say that another review here has been pointing buyers towards some mods, including Kobayashi Maru. The problem with these recommendations is that they (A) make the game rather unstable and (B) break the single player campaign. If you are looking to use mods to improve your game instead of playing the original "vanilla" experience, please follow this guide about the Remaster-Mod: https://www.gog.com/forum/star_trek_bridge_commander/mod_stbc_remaster On with the review! Bridge Commander was the last release of Totally Games, the team that brought the X-Wing to live in the acclaimed games series from Lucas Arts. With BC, they once again prove that they understand the central fantasy of the space ship, this time in the Star Trek universe: Ships gracefully turn, pointing their phaser arcs towards specific shield sections and firing glowing red torpedos which tear large chunks from the hull of the target. It is glorious. The gameplay of Bridge Commander can be best described as a combat simulation, much like the aforementioned X-Wing. You are assigned a mission and you have to carry it out, usually involving violence. Therein lies the usual achilles flaw of Star Trek Video Games, struggling to justify all the conflict of its gameplay in the story. But Bridge Commander is different, not only does its gameplay excell, no, the story can actually keep up with it! Penned by Star Trek veteran D.C. Fontana, the plot feels natural and draws the player into a slowly escalating crisis that is more akin to a multi-episode arc of a TV series than a typical video game plot. PCGamer called it "The Greatest Star Trek Game Ever", TheGamer named it the "Last Great Star Trek Game". I call it one of my all-time favorites. It is a brilliant game. What more to say?
