Description
Go where no strategy gamer has gone before - beyond all-previous award-winning 5-star series. Star General is light-years ahead of its proud ancestors and proposes a two-level combat system that accommodates space combat and surface combat. Resource management - conquer enemy planets and develop them for your needs.
See the beauty of over 90 fully rendered 3D starships. 100+ ground units and multiple planet types.
Command a multi-planetary force as you struggle to repel the advances of six alien races. Engage in multiple scenarios as any of 7 different races. And be prepared to put in some time. The scope of Star General is as vast as space itself - with well over 100 hours of gameplay.
The sky is no longer the limit. So light up the heavens in a cosmic battle - for the right to be called STAR GENERAL.
Enjoy expanded features and gameplay potential.
Resource management is a key to success - expand cities, create factories, research centers, military complexes and orbital stations.
Over 90 fully rendered starship types and hundreds of ground units.
Two-Level Combat System lets you fight among the stars and land on the planets below for ground-based combat.
Multiple planet types run the gamut from fertile gems to barren landscapes.
Engage in a variety of separate wars, each involving 2 of the 7 races which inhabit the Star General universe.
Create your own Galactic Battlefield involving 2 to 7 computer players - each representing a different race.
Use the diplomacy feature to influence your relationship with neutral races - or disable it and war with everyone.
Each of Star General's 7 unique races has its own specialized A.I. plus its own characteristic sound effects.
I enjoy this game for the ability to use the campaign feature to test out various combinations. The AI is not the best, but I find the first 12 turns always a bit nail biting. If you go at an even resource rate with the others, it will be a long, somewhat challenging, game!
Classic game on the SSI platform a bit slow likely due to old code...do not play on maximum player/opponent mode as it almost always will crash in the later stages....
It´s literally 4X Panzer General in Space made by the Devs of Panzer General (SSI).
I play this game regularly since 1997. Still own the game on disc and play it on my Win98/ XP system but had trouble installing it on Win10/11 for game preservation - unlike Panzer General which can be played on modern systems from the fan made remake "Panzer General Forever".
So why do i play this game for so long even though it´s core mechanics are outdated and the 4X aspect is almost non-existent in comparison with modern 4X games like Stellaris for example ?
Because it´s simple, easy to lerarn, very addictive and a lot of fun, that´s why :-)
Just seperate Tech-Levels for your ground troops and Spaceships. No tech trees needed you just buy them when available. 6 types of planetary buildings and merchant ships for your economy and that´s pretty much it.
Sounds too simple ? My recommendation: Play on the largest Galaxy Map, medium to a lot of planets, every enemy race possible and give them at least advantage in the eco department. You will soon find out this game is simple but hard to master AND very addictive...just this one more planet...just this one more ship...just this one more round...
Trust me, it´s the perfect chill and relax game after long workdays ;-) and worth the 5 or 6 Euro asking price.
Enjoy this very old but still gold 4x Game.
But you want to be a 19th-century super power country and aim to become ruler of the world by conquest or by vote you say ? You might be interested in "Imperialism" also available here on GOG.
Fun fact: I also play this game since 1997 :p
