Description
Continue the Star Control: Origins story with Earth Rising! Now that humans are a major player on the galactic scene, one question remains: how will they use their influence, and how will their interstellar neighbors feel about it?

Earth Rising is a 4-part expansion that contains new quests, ships, rewards, and story that is tied to humanity’s quest for establishing themselves as a major galactic power. Explore new stars, solve newly discovered mysteries, and form relationships with new alien races and their leaders.

What mark will you leave on the galaxy? Will it be for good, or for ill? Answer that question and much more in Earth Rising.

Features

Part 1: Aftermath
Star Control has ordered the construction of a new base in Epsilon Trireme, but not every alien is happy about the idea of an expanding human empire and the base construction efforts have already encountered major trouble. Meanwhile, a suspiciously helpful group of aliens have returned and directed you toward the location of a potential new ally - a race of lazy aliens called the Gloosh. A new enemy has also appeared in the shadows, and it seems to have its own long and hostile history with humanity…

Part 2: Return of the Lexites
Face your most dangerous challenge yet against a post-singularity species whose motives are a mystery! The Lexites are impeding Earth's efforts to expand into known space. But, why? As the Captain of Earth's first interstellar starship, your mission is to visit new worlds and engage in combat against strange new ships while trying to unravel the mysterious plans of the post-humans who left Earth.

Part 3: The Syndicate
Humanity’s alliance is fraying and their plans for expanding into the galaxy are waylaid when they are faced with a new threat and a difficult choice. Two new factions have appeared on the scene: The Syndicate, a group of criminals, pirates, and other people of low moral quality, and The Liberators, an organization of idealistic freedom fighters. Both want your allegiance, and both want to destroy each other, which leaves you with a question: where do your loyalties lie?

Part 4: Earth Rises
Humans have finally proven that they may be worthy custodians to the Spur, but they must still prove themselves to allies and enemies alike. Meanwhile, Commander Magara is missing, a faction of humanity is developing a dangerous battlecruiser, and the Mowlings’ God has reluctantly returned and asked you to help save them from destruction. Perhaps a stop at Kapteyn’s bar will give you some more information - if you can avoid getting into a brawl long enough to talk to someone, that is.

Don't listen to the naysayers

When I look at the reviews for this game, I see none that are written by verified owners. I have nearly 100 hours in this game. When I was younger, I loved Star Control 2. I also played 1 and 3. I feel that Stardock has done a great job in capturing the feel of that game. It is incorrect to say that this DLC just added a few repetitive voice lines. There are two chapters that have been added so far and there are many voice lines specific to those chapters. My criticism, however, would be the price given the length. As I mentioned, I have nearly 100 hours in-game, but only about 8 of that is the DLC. And not all 8 are the Earth Rising DLC. When the full game took me around 90 hours and the DLC took less than 8 and there is only a $10 difference in price, there is a problem. At this time, I would not say that the DLC is worth the $19.99 asking price, so wait for it on sale like I did. My opinion on this may change after the next two chapters are released, but only time will tell.

Delayed buggy release, insultingly short

For my recommendation, skip to the end; cash-grab rant first. As someone who got Star Control: Origins and this Earth Rising DLC at the time of their original release, I feel burned by Stardock because: 1. Earth Rising got delayed several months, and they already had a staggered release schedule that made you wait too much between parts already 2. While it starts with a bang, the first part ends up too quickly in a whimper -I think it lasted an hour, maybe even less. Then you were suppossed to wait a few months until the next part. 3. At release, it had glitches -while the full game played flawlessly, the new aliens in this DLC were completely messed up, their vertices deformed -they looked like some kind of angular sea horse floating on air, this in the same install of the original game. I never played further -waiting all those months meant I had lost interest, and even if the original release dates were met, given how insultingly short the first part was I doubt there would have been any difference. In my opinion, this was just a cash grab -charge too much for too little, then delay it and make it buggy. I'm never buying DLC again until they're fully released. And before I forget, the Lexites are cowards that just ran away. Ahem. Thank you for letting me get that out of my chest, now my recommendation: another reviewer mentions the DLC is less than 8 hours vs. the 90 hours of the full game -that's totally overpriced. Still, since it's now completely released and hopefully fixed, and I liked the (insultingly short) beginning, I can recommend the DLC but only with a deep, deep discount. The one star is for being buggy and late and expensive at its original release -I paid in advance, after all. At a very deep discount it might rate three stars. And to all the persons still mad at Stardock because of their lawsuit -knock it off. Both parties made up a long time ago and licensed their respective properties to each other, what you mad about?

Amazing! Screw these trolls.

I can't believe how many trolls are on here that don't even own the game, complaining about made up bs. Stardock is a great company. They were the best choice to carry the torch of Star Control 2. The game is incredible and this DLC is well worth it.

Overpriced DLC for bad game

This is very much not worth it, much like the base game. Not only are they expecting you to come back to finish your game months later, all they really added was a few voice lines taht repeat over and over and a few more locations to do the same repetatice tasks youve done a million times already.

Worst Company Ever

If we look up how to fuck up a franchise with no redeemable quality, we get Star Control Origins DLC and all. Stardock should be banned from the game's community period overpriced loaded crapware is what you can expect. With mediocre lost to time games that either drag on or end abruptly, and they continue to milk the hell out their games making money off a dead horse.
