Anomalies with precious artifacts, starving mutants and greedy thugs have flooded these lands along with stalkers searching for a new life and ways to get rich… Feel as one of them in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl!
To survive, a true stalker must not stop his search. Valuable trophies, equipment and supplies, new friends, shortcuts or answers to the grimmest riddles of these lands are what give a chance not to perish. So prepare for a foray to find your fate in the Center of the Zone, the most protected place from unwanted guests.
The path of a stalker to his goal is never a walk in the park. A treacherous anomaly, able to mash even the most experienced fighter, the stray of ravenous mutants or jarring betrayal – any of these things can cost your life. Get ready to check your skills and gumption, enduring the superior numbers of rivals and mutants. Stay alert even when you are alone – here at the Zone, everything is rarely what it seems at first glance.
These desolate lands of eternal autumn are full of hundreds of vagabonds. Though, the stalker is always on his own, facing dangers that are often unseen. Listen carefully, calculate every step and trust no one but yourself and Geiger counter. Only intuition combined with mastery and ice-cold guts can save a free stalker from being Lost to the Zone.

Wrap Your Brain Around This One
Whatever happened to games where you had a lot of fun just getting to the bad guy and killing him/her? These games with their "special" endings, that I just don't get, are still fun to play, but I never really know what I've done. I hate games with multiple endings because you think you've finished, then read you REALLY haven't, and if you want the "good" ending, you'll have to restart or load a SAVE a few hours back, and slog through the same, but different, game again. I like games that have multiple paths to the same ending. That way everyone has a feeling of satisfaction from winning, yet you can discuss a different path that got you there, but you don't have to worry about not getting the "real super-duper ending" that usually doesn't make any sense anyways. Well, I'm happy to say, I made it to two different endings, and yes, the final third one, the "real super-duper ending" and yes, I don't have a clue what it meant. Here's a trailer though that just might get you interested in playing the game. https://youtu.be/AYkOOXUfprY Awesome game to play. Lots of action. Great graphics and sound. I played Clear Sky before this one as it was a prequel, and I have to say, I enjoyed Chernobyl much more. Both games worth your time and effort though.

Soooo close to awesome....
I wanted to like this game. For all the frustrations and proof why realistic military shooters were never my thing, I wanted to like this game. But it always was just on the cusp for me… giving me some amazing moments, but placing it between travel and severe design frustrations. If you have the patience I do not to get through that or the will to mod them out of the game, there is a lot of good stuff to be had here. I want to rate it well, because I can see all the good stuff, but at the same time, it broke on me in a pretty serious way (if one Im not sure will happen for everyone else). As such, I kinda have to go halfway on this title.

Okay shooter, so-so story
Got the game because I really liked the classic, super-slow movie, and even read the novel it was based on, Roadside Picnic. Reviews rave about it, but notice that the "most helpful" are from 2014. Atmosphere is great at first, but at one point gets a bit repetitive - every place look like another. You don't quite get the dread of the movie/novel, as killer anomalies can be seen or detected; they are just spots to walk around. You can roam a lot free-style, but the "random quests" you get are all variations of the same - go there kill someone, pick up item, return -- and many are glitchy so you won't get all of them done. Inventory system is "realistic" (you need to place your items in a grid) but halfway through it becomes cumbersome, forcing you to drop a nice gun to be able to fit some ammo (and all the ammo graphics look more or less the same). Don't save to sell stuff, by the way -- I went the whole game without having to buy a single thing, as you can pick anything you need. As to the shooter experience, it is well done, and it is fun when you get factions shooting each other. But the enemies are mostly all the same - armed humans, and two or three monsters -- and the most fun weapons don't have too much ammo lying around, so near the end I got quite bored. The story, I'm afraid to say, I found it kind of lame. It starts mysterious, but when you get to solve the mystery it pretty much falls apart. You get a couple of different endings, none of them is great, so don't play it for the story.
