Spelunky

From other reviews I see people really enjoy this game. I fail to see why. Once you get killed you start the game from the very beginning. Where's the fun in that?

I decided I wanted to play again, but installing the GOG or Steam version and then running it results in a fatal error saying the game can't initialize FMOD.

So when I bought this game, I did not see, nor was there listed at the time of purchase, a controller requirement. Having played the original Spelunky, I had figured that he would have included a similar treatment of PC controllers, rather than opting for another approach. I was wrong. My controller (a wired USB controller intended for a PS3 but usable on Windows) is not recognized at all. Meaning that to play this $13 game, I'd have to buy a brand new $40 controller. I posted my concerns on the developer's forum in their official help section, and after a week, there's been no mention of whether or not there is any way to make this work, or any plans to expand controller support. All they could do was recommend new controller wrapper software, none of which worked for one reason or another. Really poor experience thus far, and highly disappointing given how highly I was anticipating this product.
