Perfect score 10 out of 10
This game is supposed to be difficult. The more you realize this the more enjoyable it gets. Its hilarious all the 1000 ways to die. This game is full of secrets that are worth looking into. Did you know the ghost turns Gems into Diamonds when he touches them. I find this game more enjoyable with 2 or more players on the same screen of course. They can help resurrect you in story mode or play death match with computers and 99 lives 99 bombs 99 ropes it's madness how fun and chaotic this game really is. Very high replay value even when you beat it try speed running. 10/10

Random generated punishment
This is the remaster/remake of the classic Spelunky (which you also get as an extra among other goodies). The main objective is to explore a sprawling cave system full of danger and mystery to collect as much treasure as possible. There are 4 biomes in the cave (and a secret one), each harder than the previous, with distinct traps, enemies and secrets. Sounds simple, but it's actually a quite complex game, that pushes high risk high reward gameplay in every facet of the game. The basic gameplay is a standard 2D side-scroller platformer. The player character controls well, the jumping is consistent. You can use it to jump on the enemies Mario style, or use your trusty whip or other weapons. Every time you die you loose all your progress, only your stats are being kept recorded. Let's continue with the stages. There are usually 4 stages in each zone, made out of destructible tiles. The stages are random generated from prebuilt rooms with a path calculated from the entrance to the exit, ensuring the stage can be completed. Along the way are treasures and a colorful bunch of foes, with a variety of attacks and movements, ranging from simply walking towards the player and dealing one damage on contact (which is already a huge blow, because the player starts with 4 health points), to wildly jumping and teleporting around, instantly telefragging the player. Each zone has its own roster of enemies (with some overlaps), continously increasing the challange. You can also try to obtain a golden idol from traps, which you also have to carry to the end of the level if you survive the trap guarding it, but rewards you with a large amount of money. There are also rare variations of zones and hidden stages, with unique terrain generation and unique enemies, who drop a large amount of loot or special items if defeated. At the end of the game (in the rare case you get there) you will be evaluated based on the amount of loot you've acquired. There are also NPCs, who can help you on the adventure. Damsels grant an extra life point on exiting the stage while carrying them (alive), helping hands try to help you by killing enemies (and most likely they will kill you instead accidentally). The ones with the most systems are shopkeepers. You can spend your hard earned money on items and weapons in their shops to help your run. Or you can rob them, take all their items for free, and prepare for the consequences. As I wrote before, the core of the game is putting the player in situations where they have to evaluate whether to take to safe route, or take a risk. Everything is trying to kill you, including the stage itself, but the challenge doesn't feel cheap or unfair (well, rarely does). The presentation is cartoonish, which empahasizes the game's humor, and dampens the impact of the sometimes pretty brutal violence. It takes inspiration from classic games, and a good chunk from Indiana Jones too (just look at the main character). The music is memorable and doesn't get annoying even when you hear it for the 100th time. I really like this game, I probably put like a 100 hours into it, I managed to beat the true boss of the game and I never got bored. It's addictive. Just one more run and I will beat it, just one more run and I won't blow up myself with my own bombs. Just one more run. It misses some updates from the steam version, like achievements, but I never felt anything was missing from the game. Never touched the multiplayer side, so I can't comment on the fun factor of that, but the singleplayer is worth it in itself. If you like adventure, mysteries, platforming, and restarting a lot of times, you will probably like this game. A true indie classic.

At long last!
Spelunky is an excellent platformer in which you must get from point A - B through 12 levels (divided into four areas and not including the secret levels). The premise is simple but this game is downright evil in the best ways possible! Here is why: Spelunky is a platformer with Roguelike elements, which means every level is procedurally generated, and you are given a finite amount of resources to tackle them. You are given three resources to manage; Life, Ropes and Bombs and when you start you don't have much of these resources. It's very easy to use up these resources quickly (they don't regenerate at the end of a level) and therefore quickly die in Spelunky's crazy world! However Spelunky is all about learning when and how to use these resources. On to the levels, they are designed to murder you. There is many different characters in the world of Spelunky, and they can all lead to your demise. Shopkeepers sell valuable items to your survival, however they are quick to anger and hate shoplifters (yes you can steal) to the point that they will pull out a shotgun and hunt you down 'til you or they die! Other enemies like Skeletons may lay in wait 'til you are a split second away from them before resurrecting and attacking you! Arrow traps will shoot anything in their way! The point here is the world of Spelunky is a very dangerous place, and you start with a whip, a few bombs, ropes and life and have to tackle it. Gold and Adventure await!

A Great Rogue-lite Platformer
This was a fantastic platformer which made great use of its rogue-lite mechanics. As is common for the genre, after the first couple dozen deaths without making much process, I initially found it a bit too difficult. However, as I kept at it, I come to realize my mistakes I was making and with perseverance, I made it to the game's ending. It was very rewarding. It's quite a casual experience, being a great game to play in short bursts. It loads fast and provides a shortcut key to skip the intro and menu to get straight into the gameplay. There's no save feature but as a single playthrough is short (roughly twenty minutes for me, an average player), there's no need for one. The path to the bottom of the cave isn't entirely linear either, with a number of hidden branching paths to discover, complete with other endings too. There's numerous items and monsters to discover as well, keeping each game feeling very fresh. There are a few flaws though. It was annoying that whenever a shopkeeper or his shop is damaged, even if not directly caused by you, they immediately become hostile towards the player. As the levels are randomly generated, I once saw a chain of events occur right as I entered it, causing this. When this occurs, the difficulty spikes up greatly. Also, when you take damage, you're stunned for a moment, unable to move and going limp. In many occurrences, during this you can be thrown around like a rag-doll and you're quickly able to lose a lot more health than the initial hit. It certainly makes you become cautious of your surroundings, but its a little frustrating that a good game can be over in a blink of an eye. Despite those, I'd highly recommend this game, especially for those who are fans of platformers and/or rogue-like mechanics. In fact, Spelunky is probably the best mash up of these two genres.
