SpellForce 3 - The perfect blend between RTS and RPG!
It is the year 518. The rebellion of the renegade mages, known as the Mage Wars, has been quashed by the Crown. However, it was a Pyrrhic victory: Whole regions have fallen into anarchy, refugees roam the lands in search of shelter, and a mysterious, deadly plague called the “Bloodburn” has arisen and is spreading rapidly.
In times like these people cling to any sign of hope they can find. The Purity of Light, led by a charismatic man called Rondar Lacaine, claims that mages are the source of all misfortune – and that only the second coming of Aonir, the father of all gods, will return Eo to its former splendor.

I bought Spellforce 3 vanilla long ago, now it won't run the GOG version without Steam, and of course Steam does not have Campaign, because I never bought Spellforce campaigns on Steam, only on GOG.
This is an RTS/RPG, their ideas are not only outdated but they are really poor. I've played hundreds of hours SCII and Wacraft 3 and it looks like that the devs of this game never heard of them, all the RTS UI features and commands of the MILESTONS of RTS are just not here. Example: stance of the units: no guard stance, no patrol, really bad pathfinding (it shows that there is no talent by the devs, go back to school seriously), The maps are ill concieved, there are no interesting points, they are designed just to get the player mad since the AI just sends massive quantities of units around with no purpose other than driving you mad. The music is repetitive and annoying, the announcer is REALLY annoying, The RPG side is really basic, the talent tree is uninspiring and ultimately boring. Itemization is a real mess the tooltips are jibberish place holder text. If you are a blizzard RTS fan, star clear of this bad designed and ill concieved boring stuff.
This game has tons and tons of loading screens, and they take forever. It is unplayable. I feel stupid for giving money to the ones responsible for this mess. I have a high end pc too.
By default the camera is so close to the ground that you can barely see what's going on. To zoom out, you need to edit a config file in the game directory.
The graphics look beautiful but are disfuctional for an RTS, where clarity is very important.
If you can somehow look past all the technical issues of the game, you find that this is warcraft 3 but worse. Gameplay is very slow and resource gathering is more tedious than it needs to be.
How about the story? The story fails in the first 60 seconds of the game, because you are a general who goes after the evil wizard with two other dudes. The whole point of being a general is to lead an army, not do everything yourself.
I loved the first two Spellforce series but after 25 hours play I find the character advancement options and RTS employed in Spellforce 3 to be very dissapointing and I wish I had spent my money elsewhere.
First mission, blocked paths cannot be cleared, AI yelling at me to expand my base because I've hit the population cap, can't expand after using the glossary and consulting google. Game is either bugged or just incomprehensible dogwater.
Do not buy.
