SpellForce 2 - Anniversary Edition

Maybe I´m to stupid for the game. I remember Spell Force from the past and thought, lets enjoy a old game again. I start some of the free rounds, make my avatar, choose my faction and start one of the maps with lower levels. Only to die. Like I say, maybe I´m to stupid for the game but what is this? I build my base, start to collect resources only to get raid by a army 4 minutes after I start. I don't even have soldiers or got the chance to make some. On one map a Troll game short after i start the map, killed my avatar and destroy my base. On a other map I got too attacked short after I start. And often the enemies are higher level and the levels are so stupid too. One level 2 or 3 enemy can kill 5 of my soldiers and my avatar. Like I say, maybe I´m to stupid for that game. But a game where I get attacked by enemies, 2 minutes after I build my first building and don't even had the chance to make soldiers, that is crap. And that even one level higher is enough that one enemy can kill more of my soldiers. I try a round today again and here too. I even had some soldiers and my titan but then a army of level 3 enemies arrive and destroy my hole base and kill my soldiers and the Titan. They even got nearly zero damage. Even my towers done nothing. Like I say what is that crap? Where is the balance? I don't even got no chance to look, how I can upgrade my soldiers or something like that. I had some good memories, if it comes to Spell Force but that here? No thanks.

I tried playing SF1 and due to the age could't get it to run properly. Moving on to the 2nd game, this is my first SF experience. It has some Warcraft 3 vibes. Even the visuals are very Warcraft. Overall the game is fun enough but it is also nothing special or original. I find the camera is too close at any amount of zoom. The pathfinding is really bad, characters will get stuck, or walk straight through an enemy base. The story and look seems almost childish to me. As if the game is for children. The characters wave their arms around during conversations (it is actually hilarious if you watch the random movemetns that repeat) and they speak very dramatically. I don't think it is a bad game or a great game. It is fun enough. Don't expect a deep, original story. The RPG elements are super basic but I actually like that. There isn't some massive skill tree, you get new items fairly consistently without it becoming a burden.

It's night and day compared to SF1, better music better visual better combat. Has a much better pace, faster more engaging and it actually feels like an rts. The only bug i encountered is when in cinematic dialog the characters are not in frame and left in when VA made a mistake and restart the sentence which is funny.

Game constantly crashes during the loading and games sometimes forgots to end cutscene. I love this series but Anniversary Edition is just broken.

in comparison with the fiorst game this improves in some aspects, is the same in others and is worse in yet more. Let me start with the positive +better graphics +better music +even more "solo" missions +dialogue choicess on some quests +units now have command buttons for patrolling/holding or scouting +No crashes (yay?) What basicallyu is the same: - voice acting - technical issues (more on that later) - targeting enemies is as clunky as ever - still no fullscreen map of the zones - third person view is as uselesss as ever (or even worse since you can see below the textures of the map if you angle your camera upwards or just walk up a ramp) - stiill no customizable keybinds what is worse: - RPG elements are stripped off, at level up you only get an ability point and that's it - in order to specialize in a skill you are forced top waste points in other trees that are not relevant i.e. if you want Divine magic lvl2 you had to have spent at least 5 skills points overall, so you have to waste a precious level up on an unrelated skill in order to get access to the want you really want - No stats at all, you increase your health/mana pools by equipping better gear - spellbook stripped down - heroes now can die and is game over (they get uncoonsious and you got a time limit to get them up, but still) - You can 't build chokepoints with towers anymore - barely any xp from kiilling enemies (and only if their level is higher than yours) - No more passive spells like the auras from necromancers I got to the misison in the Underhalls and suddenly my fps dropped to 1-2, I tried rebooting the gam,, changing several graphical settings to no avail, I read that you could fix it by downgrading the game to the "gold" edition, but I have no idea how to do it on GOG, I also tried a patch that supposedly helps run the game in modern systems, with no positive results. But hey, at least the game didn't crash randomly like the first one. Now off to the third, fingers crossed
