Soulbringer

This game is exactly why I support GOG! Back in the day I picked Soulbringer up as a "B-side" RPG with Planescape Torment, and installed it just to see what it was about. I don't remember ever hearing about it before I bought that double pack. It took three or four tries, but I finally got into the story, and and at that point I was hooked. Unfortunately, that computer died just as I was getting to the last phase of the game. I can't tell explain why, but out of the many games I've never finished, Soulbringer is one of those I remember with regret. I tried several times to install it on later versions of Windows, but never got it to run successfully. I've downloaded GOG's version and confirmed it works on Windows 10. Now I just need to find the time to start over and work through the first few hours until I'm hooked again. Be warned: it takes a while to get into this game, but if you do, it will reward you with an interesting story line and intriguing strategy. I remember the combat being unusual, even for the time, and it's definitely dated compared to today's RPG's. However, any game that haunts me a decade later needs to be played again, if only to get it out of my head.

Takes a while getting into, but seriously a badass rpg. Revolutionary for it's time, innovative combay system and kickass gameplay and atmosphere.

This was probably the first game i beat as a kid, and it's so good to be back. The game truly was ahead of it's time, with fun litle secrets, lots of books you can read that expand on the history and lore of this world, epic magic system and a really amazing story and character development. The game starts a bit slow but once you can teleport and not be encumbered with all the items you pick along the way, it gets progressively more and more fun. Maybe not for everyone but highly recomend to old school rpg gamers.

Con: -Really ugly 3d visuals even for a game from 2000. Baldurs Gate from 1998 is leagues ahead in isometric view. - No minimap or ingame map combined with a small field of view lead to huge orientation problems. The landscape has no recognizable landmarks, so you loose your orientation all the time. - simplistic level design. -combat is hack n slash. - simplistic character progression. - no role playing interaction at all. No choices consequences. - Story is the generic your are the chosen son of legendary hero, go save the world again type. -No character generation. -No party Pros: None Not recommended. If you insist on playing choose Dx6 in the launcher video menu. In Dx7 it will crash all the time.
