Description

Songs of Conquest's  first new faction has arrived from the shores of the Bleak East. Conquer the lands of Aerbor as the mighty raiders of Vanir and witness their powerful transformation into the Vildra. Carve a path through the snow in five new challenging Conquest maps as you command new powerful Wielders such as the shapeshifted Gorm the Endbringer or Jarn Steadfast, the one who refused to Change.

Included in the Vanir faction DLC:

A new biome with snow, ice, and ruins to explore

8 troops with new traits and abilities

Upgrading Vanir troops often change the troop completely, mechanically and visually

9 Wielders with both new and old specializations

Town and settlements with new buildings

Access to Essence of Destruction, Arcana and Chaos

New styles of play with more easily accessed dyads

5 new Conquest maps highlighting the Vanir Biome and faction

2 new Challenge maps to test your skills and knowledge of this new faction

Owning the DLC does not exclude you from playing against others online, even if they don’t own the DLC, or vice versa.

The Vanir

The Vanir are a hardy folk descended from the indebted of Barya and ragtag settlers from Arleon. Over the years they’ve grown into a folk who now raid their former masters. But the Bleak East is not a peaceful place and a terror known as the Roots has forced them to embrace the temperamental creatures of the land, the Vildra.

The power of the Vildra can change a human into a fearsome beast, ready to do battle against any foe. Many a Wielder has taken this path to rage and power.

With the Vildra’s power unleashing, a Huskarl can be transformed into a Korphan, switching the spear for beaks and talons while leaping into the enemy's backlines.

The Berserkir can truly unleash their rage as they change into a mighty Bear, challenging any who dare oppose their weaker brethren.

The Chieftain is used to commanding his forces but once the Pride of the Vildra takes root within, they grow to enormous proportions, turning into a Jormr of myth and legend.

The Vanir’s kind Swine was turned into an ever-living version of itself. The Serimnaan can be eaten in the evening and in the morning be found happily rolling around in the mud.

But the Vildra bring their own to the battle as well. Troll, Lykt, Bacahorse, and Nornor are all more than willing to rip apart any who stand against them.

So how will you command the Vanir? Will they stay human or embrace their wilder side and truly become the beasts that lurk inside all of us?

A Bleak Biome

With the Vanir also comes a new Biome of snow, ice, and forests for as far as the eye can see. The Bleak East is just as harsh as the name implies. With new places to visit, new caverns to plunder, and riches to be had. How will you conquer them?

Many more maps

Two small, two medium and one large Conquest maps are included in the Vanir DLC, specially designed for playing with Vanir. Will you defend your home against the invading houses of Barya, plunder the shores of the weakened Arleon, or trudge into the Marshes of the Rana?

In addition to the conquest maps, there will be two Challenge maps to test your skills with this new faction. Take charge of Sorg, a lost Troll who’s just trying to find his way home or stand against the corruption of the Vildra as Jarn Steadfast, the one who refused to Change.

Cool new Faction... But.

The new faction is fun to play, but there is no 4 mission story to go with it. Why? This Dlc should have a story, a tail to get us to know the leaders of Vanir and learn how to play as them. Instead, you have to go in blind or try them out against AI. Not bad dlc, just a bit disappointing.

Must be a new business model

Songs of Conquest does a pretty good job at recreating the HOMM3 vibe. However, HOMM3 was released in 1999. It's a fun mechanic, but games have progressed a long way in 25 years. The single player campaigns leave something to be desired, the overall story is meh, and replayability is limited due to the limited faction selection. Adding a new faction certainly expands the game, but the original songs of conquest game should probably have had this faction (and at least 2 others) to begin with to make it worth the purchase price. Adding this as a DLC seems questionable. If I were to go back in time, I'd tell past me to just wait a few years until the "ultimate" edition is released, containing all the factions and extra DLC in one bundle, likely offered at the same price as the original. It's not like you're gaining anything by getting access to this early... but by buying the game now and then buying each DLC individually, you'll end up paying a significant premium over the price of the inevitable "ultimate edition", which really ends up being the game they should've shipped initially, with the only benefit being you get it when it's half-baked. It must be some new business model for game developers - release what amounts to a limited demo and start getting people to pay for it, then use that to fund the remaining development and release the remaining features as DLCs... then a few years later, release the game you originally set out to make as an "ultimate" version of your original $20 demo. It's shady AF, but I guess it keeps development funded. Better to wait and buy the lot when they're all bundled than to buy the game and each DLC. I certainly have regrets.

Overpriced

This DLC is a new race/faction with a handful of new maps. No new campaign. It's worth 5$ at most. As for the Vanir, I like them. It's good to have more variety. Their style fits the game well.

Campaign where?..

I haven't actually tried the faction yet lamayo (the DLC just came out). Bought it immediately because I love the game, but like, there's no campaign for the new faction? That's kinda disappointing

Great new Faction!

I really enjoy the new Vanir faction. It has a pretty distinct and unique feel to it. I am a little sad it lacks a campaign (thus no 5 stars), but instead we get some conquest and challenge maps which do a good job introducing the faction.
