A decent indie horror experience
Summary: +Intelligent story and good writing in general (NPCs, dialogues, collectible pieces of lore) +Nicely crafted and believable environments +Truly immersive explorative experience (Game does not hold your hand) +Enough of spine chilling moments -Lackluster run & hide mechanic, slightly clunky controls Review: At most times “Soma” feels like an exploration game with simple puzzles. Having said that, at first I felt that the whole enemy mechanic was a bit redundant or could have been implemented better. On the other hand, monsters logically tie into story and the story itself is one of the two things done exceptionally well in this game; the second being an unsettling atmosphere of secret underwater labs and ocean floor. Another big plus for a game of this type is that it does not include HUD and does not give overly specific instructions on where to go and what to do. As a player character who finds himself in this abandoned and unfamiliar place, you have to figure out a lot of things yourself. All of these are pretty intuitive and most of the time you are actually given clues, if you pay attention. However, after playing such survival horror titles as “Dead Space”, I felt the controls were a bit clunky and I was especially powerless against monsters in “Soma”. Most of the times, I could not help but wish for a way to blast them away. Overall, I think this indie title delivered on most of the aspects, so I give it 4 out of 5.

Scary and good jumpscares!
I really enjoyed this horror game and the lore was great! The monsters were equally challenging and the atmosphere were really spooky. It was very easy for me to have my heart going faster in this spooky environment and trying to stay stealthy. I had fun doing that. As a deaf gamer, I loved the fact that the glitches animation gave me a hint that a monster was nearby. It helped me a lot to be more careful crouching around and watch out for my back. I had some really good jumpscares. The ending was a bit sad but had a good ending. Thank you for a great game for someone like me who hasn't played horror games ever since Doom! I'm glad I got to try this game out. I highly recommend this game to everyone, including my deaf gamers! Cheers!

Excellent and Thought Provoking
I got SOMA for free (thanks, GOG!), and began playing it with little to no expectations. I suppose I anticipated a bog standard gruesome horror fest. What I got, however, was so much more. No spoilers here, but this is not really a horror game, exactly. There are horror elements, but the story is what pulls you in and keeps you there. You spend far more time worrying about existentialism than you do about continuing your existence. This is a game that challenges the player on much more than their reaction times. I enjoyed this title thoroughly, and highly recommend it, especially if you are tired of the typical run and shoot "horror" games out there. Thanks again, GOG, for such an excellent gift!

The horror happens in Your head.
I don't play a lot of horror games, so I'm really not an expert. But I really liked this one! It doesn't come with many JUMP SCARES!!!! Instead, it focusses on a philosophical kind of horror. I hated and I enjoyed the thrill!
