This is a game where you start playing expecting and horror or sci-fi plot at the beginning. But it takes things to whole other level when you face the grim and unusual atmosphere of the world inside of it while runnning around does not do you good but to see the only way to advance is go through the horror and unresolved itself. You can feel the uncertainty of the humanity's future and have the chance to let your mind go insane by the thoughts about every possible pathway that there would be.I can undoubtedly state the gaming experience is one that ı will always remember.
Always wanted to try this game but the selling price USD 30 put me off as i wasn't sure if the game really deserved that high price tag (coming from long time GoGers USD 30 is considered pretty high). Few years later, now that i got this game free from recent GOG giveaway i almost feel bad, because wow.. the hype for this game is certainly real.
+ Intriguing story, you always want to know more after each revelation
+ You're not a typical good guy protagonist
+ Story arc is presented in continous manner, make you feel like the enitre experience is in a single day
+ Immersive atmosphere. Grade A sound effects, voice acting, dialogue and music
+ Not your typical "hide and seek" video game. There is no jumpscare here
+ The game is more like a long exploration with mild puzzle. There is no obvious pointer telling which way to go and what to do
+ Although dated but the graphics is acceptable and support various modern wide and ultra wide resolution
Anyway it's 5/5 from me well worth the time spent. Hopefully we can see the developer produce more games in near future.
I still can't believe I got this game a couple of years ago as a GOG giveaway. I am replaying this at least once a year and it still gives me the creeps. The story is well thought out as well as it is food for thought.
If you know Amnesia, you know how this plays.
However, this massively underestimated title has one of the best stories I have ever seen in my decades of gaming. Mark my words, to those who will play through to the end, this game will stay with you forever. Not for the faint of heart or emotional people.
Also, warning: If you are in a dark place in your life right now, you might want to skip this for a while.
Otherwise, can't recommend it enough
This game is mostly an exploration of what "consciousness" is, and what it means to be "you". It is a bit of a gut punch to your perception of "self". The main arc of the story is good, and the game is worth it for this experience alone.
Interactions with the environment are also fun. There are lots of computers and gizmos and I really liked messing around with them. I also liked admiring the aesthetics of the base. It feels "real", and not cartoony or over the top sci-fi.
But the game is kinda disappointing.
It feels rushed from start to end. For example, the fate of the main antagonist was just wedged in there in the end in a very sloppy manner. It comes out of nowhere, you make a decision (that you have no way of knowing the implications), and then you leave. And then the game ends. The "origin story" of your companion is also wedged in there near the end. There are many examples of this kind of "rushing things". This is just sloppy.
The underwater environments are boring and weirdly huge. When you are underwater, you spend TONS of time just walking. Not "walking and admiring the view" - just getting from A to B. Exploration is rarely rewarded here, you are on a rail most of the time.
The game also failed to be "scary" because there is no credible threat. Oh, yes, there are things out there trying to kill you, but they suck at their job and they elicit no fear and provide no challenge - if anything, they detract from the experience because they slow your progression down enormously. You also soon realize that your character is immune to things that would normally kill a human, so there goes the sense of dread.
It is all kinda disappointing. I expected a tense atmospheric thriller, but I got a glorified walking simulator with a rushed feeling and monsters that kinda ruin it. The sad part is that with a few tweaks, this game could have been brilliant.
