Soldier of Fortune: Platinum Edition

Dentro de todo y para lo que había en su época, es bastante innovador si tenemos en cuenta que usa el motor idEngine, el mismo que usaban Quake I y II; pero lo encontré como más pulido, como la vista desde esquinas, el gore y las cinemáticas. Por lo de rendimiento, huelga decir que en sistemas modernos, no queda otra que ir directo a meter mano en las configuraciones del motor y descargar algún parche, al menos para conformar una experiencia de juego fluída, aunque bloqueada a 60fps si se quiere evitar ciertos bugs, que, hasta ahora, no tienen solución. Igual no es nada que haga imposible la jugabilidad. ¿Se recomienda? Si no le hacés asco a los juegos viejos, y el género 'boomershooter' no es un problema para vos, entonces sí, vale la pena darle una jugada. En caso contrario, ni lo intentes. Va a ser plata tirada.

... of controversy and technology - a true pioneer. Back in 2001I was in the 7th grade and I'd use to sneak in 30 mins of gameplay during the lunch break, spent in the nearby "LAN club" - picture 12 Pentium 2s in a small-ish room, usually in the middle of a Free-for-all deathmatch, the room filled with cigarette smoke and frantic yelling. In those days when the internet was dial-up only, I played the credits off of this game - to the point of knowing it by heart. The different escalating levels of damage you could inflict on an enemy model, followed by messy cyber mutilation was something I'd never expected to see in a game at that point in time but eventually started to see later on in other titles. Unreal Tournament had similar technology but definitely not like this. Throw in the death animations - again a never before seen by me feature in a game and I really got hooked. Although then I found it interesting the plot now seems quite flat and unsurprising but some characters ( like the main villains) were given enough personality through the voice acting that they really deserved more screen time than the amount they have, Also - really enjoyed the simple dot crosshair; the guest star (now dead) dictator making a short appearance; the level design was top-notch for it's time too. Bottom lining it - this game is worth every cent as it's a pioneer in more ways than one and is more than decent overall ( not sure I liked the second installment as much s the first).

Beware: This review is not based on gameplay (which is quite nice, as far as I remember from my youth). My game would not start upon launch, making me have to spend considerable time into getting it to work and ultimately trying to cancel the purchase and get my money back. If you're thinking of purchasing this game just for some quick fun, consider the abovementioned risk involved.

Soldier of Fortune is fast paced, exciting, and horrifically gory. Travel the globe performing missions fit for James Bond, but handling them like Commando Aside from a few rough levels, this game has aged like fine wine
