Soldier of Fortune: Platinum Edition

As the title suggests, this game has the best shotgun ever.

The game strikes an ideal balance between gameplay and story. It's not so scripted and bombastic as modern CoD games but it offers enough of 80's action movie style story to be more than just fun run and gunning. I like it's somewhat military, mundane vibe ("here and now", no demons/zombie/monsters/aliens just human enemies) combined with brutal, over the top GHOUL damage system, providing "realistic" injuries and wounded enemy reactions. The locations variety is nice and reflects everything what was topical in 90's and early 2000's as possible threat: European terrorism, Iraq and Saddam, Balkan conflicts, fear of uncontrollable proliferation of nuclear weapons after USSR collapse. The one thing I could do without are some of the more futuristic weapons, which clashed with more grounded setting for me. Definitely must play for FPS fans.

Soldier of Fortune is one of my favorite classic action game. You simply cannot get tired of this game. A very fun and interesting game.

This game along with others like Quake and UInreal Tournament set the standard. This was one of the first Modern Warfare games before CoD 4 was a thing. Linear story that was a great. Sound effects were pounds although it will miss a beat with muffled or canceled out SFX gun fire (won't notice much). Music is very dramatic at moments of action but sounds amazing. Controls are smooth and fast, Aiming is precise. I wonder if Multiplayer is still active, I would love to play this game with my father again.
