Sucked when i was i kid, sucks even now.

Today,i bought SoF:Payback since i could never play it properly on my potato laptop when i was a wee lad. I always thought that the game ran and played like crap because of my old pc. I was dead wrong. It's one of the biggest pieces of shit i ever played. Incredibly bland/generic,textures are really ugly(even for a 2007 game),gameplay is stiff as a corpse and the godforsaken voice acting is hilariously bad. I didn't even bother to try and follow the plot thanks to all of these factors, and it ripped apart my immersion since the first 5 minutes of gameplay. Buy it for a laugh if you want, i feel like i should've spent my 5 euros on beer.

Soldier of Misfortune

It's a step back from all previous Soldier of Fortune games. I'm guessing it was some other game rebranded as SoF so Activision could cut their losses on what was obviously a bad game. Character movement feels like early bad Doom clones. AI is not well balanced. Gunplay is okay, albeit unrealistic with virtually no recoil. You would think this was made in 1998, but apparently it came out in 2007. It's just mind boggling to think we'd already had Half Life 2 and Doom 3 by this point, heck SoF 1 had come out by that point. There are a few moments of fun where you feel like you are mowing down baddies and you feel kind of awesome, but then there are frustrating moments where enemies are shooting at you from who knows where. No one would be playing this game today if it weren't for the SoF legacy. The worst part is the game isn't too bad, but then all the sudden in the last mission (about 3 levels) it's insane. There's enemies that kill you in one hit, and then two really bad bosses. The real challenge of the final two bosses was figuring out how to cheese them, other than that they would just kill you in one hit. Should you play it? No. Will you play it? If you are like me and just want to finish the trilogy, then yes.

Good luck hitting anything

I loved Soldier of Fortune 1. I liked the second one a lot even though the new damage models were wonky. This one is nearly unplayable, which explains why I never knew that it ever came out and instantly regretted the purchase. The graphics and damage modeling are good for the year this came out and would be satisfying if it mattered at all where you aimed. I can't even stand playing far enough to judge any story or other maps that this might have, I didn't even push through the first. I stood point blank to an enemy and went through an entire clip and died without hitting the enemy, that should tell you how atrocious the hit boxes are. It's as if hitting an enemy is all based on a low probability dice roll and not on where you're aiming. You're more likely to hit an enemy if they're completely in the open, but if they're on a rooftop or anywhere near an obstruction even if they're almost completely in the open, they're near impossible to hit. When you do hit and kill an enemy, there's a good chance that the body will fly across the map. The physics in this game is completely ridiculous. Don't buy this, save your money. Just replay the first and second game for the nostalgia.

One of the worst games I've ever played!

It sucks, I never got past the second mission because I just couldn't keep going on. The first 2 games are quite great but this one is uhhh....nah. YOU CAN'T EVEN TURN WHEN RUNNING!

My humble opinion.

I share the opinion posted by the user @gngr86 about this game: Positives: + bodyparts fly when hit + various weapons and costumization to choose from + varied landscapes + sniping option + good graphics + good sound and music + partly entertaining Negatives: - the AI is not the best, and is often unfair - some parts are too hard - the checkpoint system is not polished enough - damage model is to simple - unstable and buggy - enemies often keeps popping up and respawning - does not have a quick save function - not as good as the first two games Total Score: 6/10 Recommended modifications: Widescreen fix: Go to the Save map Open profile.dat with HxD Find the string which displays the resolution, e.g. 1600x1050x60. Replace it with the resolution of your display. FPS lock: Use RivaTuner Statistics Server and lock the FPS to 60. Anything higher will make the game glitchy and hard to play.
