Description
Smart City Plan is a modern city builder game: Plan zones, roads, public transport like trains, trams, buses, subways and even the hypertube. Set taxes and policies and implement smart city technologies. Generate a sustainable city and take care of your citizens.

What can you do in the game

  • Public transport: Trains, trams, buses, subways, hypertube, and more
  • Decide policies about energy and water usage, insulation, taxes, etc
  • Write laws about gun control, anti-corruption, pollution, speed limits, gambling and more
  • Turn your city literally green by enforcing the usage of green living walls
  • Attract special industries like space companies
  • Solve traffic problems with an array of utilities and an intelligent road/rail building method
  • Unlock sandbox mode to place every building exactly where you want it to be
  • Zoning for commercial, industry, agriculture, office, and 3 types of residential areas

How it works

Start by creating a few roads and specify zones where your citizens can start building their homes, shops and companies.
Once everything runs fine, your can start expanding your city. Extend it by providing public transport for your citizens and implement policies. Ensure everything is taken care for: Pollution, noise, crime, waste, water, energy and so on. Your assistant will help you by guiding your through the process of doing all this easily.

Gameplay

The game is running in real-time, but can be accelerated and paused at any time. Manage policies, track financial data, analyze problems in your city. Expand the city when you have figured out how everything works and manage the public transport system, and build new infrastructure buildings, stations, rails, hypertube tracks, bridges, or even space ports.

Cut the Chaff from Sim City

Recently, I had the urge to play a Sim City-like game that wouldn't be too demanding. I needed a very calm game of building, and because I still crave that, I think this game succeeded. I love how simplified this is. There are a lot of elements to incorporate into a city, but they haven't overwhelmed me yet. I think the design of this game has placed less emphasis on convoluted micromanaging of tedious bureaucratic minutiae, and gained a subtle emphasis on creativity for that. My first city looks just a major gridlock of five-by-five zones like the tutorial taught me, but that title screen hints that you can really make things look much more interesting than my first outing. This is my main goal--and it's not to have to concern myself over the utmost efficiency. That said, I did have some difficulty with constant traffic congestion. No matter what I tried, plunking down buses and tram stations and tracks didn't seem effective. Hopefully my next city will do better. Now, that said, the following are perhaps the most important paragraphs of this review: There are still some kinks this game really ought to work out. First is the control scheme. The only way I could steer the camera with the mouse was to push up against the sides of the window, and if you use a dual-monitor setup, this becomes a grave nuisance. I was surprised that I couldn't click and drag, say with the middle mouse button or something. I really, really hope this gets patched in. I genuinely feel it should've been a default behavior. The other issue was visibility. While you get cool options for seeing the needs of your city and how they fluctuate from location to location, I had to somewhat juggle these when trying to decide where to bulldoze and build. I think my main concern is being able to see buildings that are behind other buildings. I had to bulldoze a couple of times like this. I also wish I could bulldoze only certain structures on a tile--my tube was a mistake, but it crushed the road.

Defective

Looks good, up until I try to actually start a game. Crashes every time I enter a name in when starting the game. Save your money and don't bother.

Almost perfect

I'd suggest add the following alternatives to improved this game for the players: 1. Underground light wiring to facilitate other improvements in the city surface 2. Roundabouts on vehicle roads to minimize traffic 3. Monorail suspended on the tracks to minimize traffic 4. More scenarios, such as: beach, snow, mountain, etc. 5. Tips recommending the right amount of each type of building per area and road to avoid traffic and unhapiness of the citizens

♥ original SimCity? You will ♥ SCP.

My very first city builder was the original SimCity. It ran under early MS DOS, was black and white and low resolution by today's standards. I had never played a game like it. I used to leave it running, while I went to work, to see what would happen by the time I got home. I even used to print out huge versions of the city map, on a dot matrix printer, to tape together and hang up. I loved it. Since then, there have been many city builders and newer versions of SimCity. None of them really excited me in the same way as that original SimCity. Smart City Plan does that. That's why I gave it 5 stars. It isn't just a copy though. Features - Easy to get going and start a city. - Common sense visual placing of zones, streets and other elements. - Easy to see or find out what is going on with your city. - Information, so you know about what is needed, is very helpful without being overwhelming. - Useful overlays, that show the status of various elements, are easy to use and access. Aesthetics - Graphics are very pleasing and varied. They are a good combination of detailed and stylized to give the impression of what it is. That way, you can easily see what is going on in different parts of the city. - The screen is well laid out. The menu, or info, you need is visible without overly obscuring the screen. No annoying menus that you constantly have to open or that popup. - Instead of focusing on photo realism, SCP animation indicates what is going on. For instance, cars do not show every car on the street. They merely represent the amount that there are or where there is congestion. - You can adjust the size of the UI to be easier to read take up less of the screen. - You can name each of the buildings. That name shows up on the map. A bit of personalization. - Things grow or build or develop over time. They don't just instantly happen. TLDR: Loved the original SC? You will love SCP. Not dull. Give it a chance.
