Key Features:
With all 24 previously available DLC extensions included and a wealth of visual improvements, Hong Kong has never felt so alive.
A mature, gritty undercover cop drama where a wrong decision can blow your cover at any time.
Explosive action fuelled by a seamless mix of deadly martial arts, intense gunfights and brutal takedowns.

Hong Kong is your ultimate playground: Enter illegal street races, gamble on cock fights, or kick back with some karaoke. There are countless ways to entertain yourself in Hong Kong's diverse districts.
I thought I was going to play as an eastern gangster but instead you're a cop compelled by the gods to sing karaoke. I thought I could just leave the minigame or afk but it turns out it's mandatory and causes "mission" failure. And the game seems keen on sending you on pointless errands rather than advancing what i assume will eventually resemble a plot
It really is a great open world game. Hardware isn't the issue that's for sure. I just wanted to experience the definitive edition by maxing all the settings to extreme. But the framerates drops badly and I can't even enjoy it anymore.
I've been on the lookout for this game for a while, but had always missed the sales so far. When it was available for 2.99€ on GOG, I grabbed it. Well - I paid 2.99€ too much for it.
Although the game is still quite nice to look at even 9 years after its initial release, the voice acting is very well done and the story makes sense as an action thriller - the game fails completely due to its controls. At least if you play with mouse and keyboard.
The camera only allows you to look around to a very limited extent - you really feel confined. You can't really look around the otherwise very nicely designed city.
Controlling the vehicles is a pain. Either you drive too slowly or you speed through the streets - with the corresponding consequences.
Unfortunately, there is an experience point deduction for property damage and personal injury.
Simply walking through the streets results in a rude shoving match, because our hero can hardly be prevented from running into other people. When we have to run, it turns into a wild scuffle, with passers-by flying to the side.
And the fights... My goodness... Who came up with these stupid combat controls? Enemies that I have to counter flash red. If I don't react immediately with the "E" key, I get a beating. And it's a quick one, and not a small one.
Strangely, all punches and kicks and their combinations are executed with the left mouse button. In the end, you nervously click the mouse while your health bar rapidly melts away.
The "F" key allows you to grab the opponent - if you can get a hold of him...
With "R" you can pick up weapons dropped by the opponent. It's a pity that the "hitbox" for picking up weapons is so tiny that this trick rarely works - and you end up taking a beating again.
Too bad - the unusual setting in Hong Kong, the gnarly main character, the good voice actors and even the story are at least worth 4 rating stars. The gameplay is just good for a mediocre 2 star rating.
Together, that makes 3 points.
