Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

The mechanics of the game are kind of crappy (awkward fighting and terrible driving, no camera control) but one thing is amazing: It is to modern Hong Kong as LA Noire was to 1940s Los Angeles. It's awesome to crank up the detail and explore a pretty accurate, but limited map of HK. I've been there once and it was an awesome feeling to see it again in this game.

What a nice surprise yesterday! I never was so fascinated on a gog-release. It was an instant buy of course. I never played the game before and now i have my chance. Thank you so much.

I enjoyed this game at first, but quickly found both the story and gameplay repetitive. The combat has a little bit of a learning curve, but like the rest of the game there isn't much to it beyond the basics. There are your standard mobs who you can do with as you wish, grapplers who you have to beat with strikes, and strikers who you have to beat with grappling. Before long you'll be button mashing your way through everything without a care in the world. There is gunplay, but it's not very good. The worst part of the game is the driving. It's janky, certain vehicles such as motorcycles take several seconds before they start moving, which feels odd in a driving system which is obviously intended to be arcade-like. The story is nothing special and you'll see the twists and turns coming a mile off. There's a bit of a Donnie Brasco vibe going on, but it shows its hand way too soon. As far as the good - the map is large and there is a lot to do. If you like lots of 'go here/do this' gameplay and checking off collectible lists (which I'm not knocking), then I'd recommend picking this up on sale.
