Fun and addicting!

Slay the Spire is a card-based dungeon crawler in a way. You pick between 3 classes with their own unique cards and battle monsters. As you defeat monsters, you gain new cards and relics that strengthens your character. Relics are passive items that have unique abilites that change the way you play. There are numoures amount of bosses that require different thinking and strategies. Slay the Spire is a risk/reward type of game. Relics makes things easier, yes. But you get most of your relics from defeating Elite Monsters. They are very difficult beat. You can also choose to not engage them to save some HP, but you won't get the relic then. Slay the Spire might seem intimidating at first, but it's easy to get into, but hard to master. Yup, it's one of those games. It's super satisfying to pull off ridiculous combos. It's fun to build around cards that synergies well with the rest of the deck. It's fun to try something new, even if it doesn't work entirely as planned. There is some trial and error. You will die. Alot. But at least it's fun.

Great game, ultimately FRUSTRATING.

Slay the Spire is probably one of the most addictive games that I've ever played regardless of genre. The gameplay is complex and the presentation is attractive. One of the best things about it is how fast you can make headway in the game--it can give an amazing sense of flow. I've played it for about 107 hours, putting almost 72 hours of that time into the Ironclad character, with about 12 hours in the other three character types. I've got about half of the achievements, though honestly I'm not the kind of player who really goes in for them much. I would describe myself as an experienced though not especially talented gamer, having played many games on both PCs and consoles. I feel like I'm representative perhaps of the high-mid tier of gamer, and I play 20 hours a week, sometimes more. Now, after playing this game for so much time, I have only gotten 13 victories and 205 deaths--just over a 5% success rate. Considering there is no real progression system like say Dead Cells or Neon Abyss, so when you lose, you have little to show for it considering the unlockables are all sorted after the first 10 hours or so. Basically, I hate this game--specifically, I hate the emotional experience of playing this game. Most of the time, I end runs wanting to scream in frustration; or actually screaming. I have seen reviewers say most of their losses to their own lack of skill and yes, I admit this is true. I'm no genius. Most of my deaths were surely due to my own mistakes. But the RNG (random number generation) elements of the game lead to a great amount of my losses in 2 areas: Oftentimes I can tell by THE MAP that I'm doomed to fail. Other times, I get TERRIBLE DEALS, even early on in Act 1 before deck-building can be a factor. Addiction isn't enjoyment. I don't play games for constant failure; that is what real life is for. I play them for power fantasy or as stress relief. I only recommend this if you are OK with losing 90%+ with no tangible progression.

Played 121 hours on steam already...

So, nothing to say, game obviously suxx. Sorry, i learned english from Skyrim reviews. Jokes aside: I really played it 121 hours on Steam, the game was already worth it's price when it was released with 2 playable classes, now it officially has 3 plus some very good free mods. Many more hours will follow in the future. The only real problem i could think off would be the fact that the classes don't seem very well balanced. Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of options with which you can beat pretty much all of the game. But some are clearly better then others. Still figuring out this alone took me about 30 hours. 1 regular run will take you about 40 minutes, well, when you reached the point where you can comfortably beat normal mode that is. And i felt so clever when i found the first build that works!

Super Duper

Really great game. Original and unique as far as games go, yet impeccably crafted and polished. I got far more enjoyment and time out of Slay the Spire than I expected. The consistently high reviews and praise this game receives are actually warranted. The game likely appeals to a wider audience than one would expect. Perfect game for me when I want a game that makes me think and isn't casual, yet still allows me to commit varying degrees of attention. Relaxing, yet rather deep. Enough RNG and rougelike aspects to produce immense replay value relative to cost. Modding potential is there to massively increase content. Further developer attention is promising. I can't say anything bad about this game. Really surprised me. (Steam owner, 150+ hours as of time of writing)

Interesting mechanics and combat.

This is a really fun game. Enjoyable art and atmosphere. Interesting card mechanics and combat system. Good writing on the random events too, not too wordy and not dull. A single run (if you don't make silly mistakes) takes about 2 glasses of wine or 45 mins approx. The only negative might be the music - it didn't really work for me. I generally stick to just sound effects and play my own beats so this didn't matter to me.
