I'm not old enough to have played with this type of games, but I felt it was a very nice experience. One of the biggest annoyances about it is the fact of not having a minimap or even a map so you are unsure of where you are, but maps are not really huge so it's difficult to get loss or miss something if you explore a bit, so in this scale, it's not really an issue, you even flex your mental muscles, so it's actually a good thing.
The art, the music, the story, the whole the setting, feels quite nice, the world is fun to explore.
Maybe I'm not quite fond about the ending, but probably because I wanted to explore about that little world instead of going somewhere else let's say.
But overall it's a very nice experience, hope to get some more in the future.
as per the title about 10 hours in and having a great time. Enjoying the writing, retro look without the limitations that can be felt in a truely late 80's rpg.
The Cthulhuesque narritive is refreshing, the levelling system is easy to understand while still giving flexiilbity.
Playing as an adventurer against a force beyond mortal comprehension is the best simple way I can put this stellar indie CRPG. The dialogue and descriptions of enemies, events, and battle situations are very on point and leave quite the impression. Building your character is easy to understand and gives you simple answers as to what stats do and how they affect you. Music was on point whether it was from simply catchy as the victory battle tune or building the horror and suspense. I will say the battle and maps are quite small and can make it difficult at times to move your character to the exact spot you want. Other than that I can't really see any true negative with the game. If you would like a CRPG that is smaller than many others but has just as much thought and heart then SKALD is the game for you.
The game is a hidden jewel for old school players like me but also for younger gamers that want to dive into a nice story with 8bit art RPGs. Enjoy and cheers
Classic tactical RPG with a nostalgic vibe. Story is engaging and mechanics are familiar-yet-fun. Huge plus that the game console is a throwback to the C-64!
