A great sequel to Simulacra

I played the first Simulacra and enjoyed it thoroughly. People said "phone voyeur/haunted phone games" are a whole genre, but that it was the best of them, so I decided to avoid others until this. If you're not familiar, it's a point-and-click FMV adventure, where the whole setting is someone's phone. The story in Simulacra 2 is good (though I personally prefer the first's better). I felt like I really got to know the characters and personalities involved. The plot screams "we want to be a franchise." The dialog trees have enough branching not to feel like you're not having any input, though sometimes it is obvious when you are railroaded. Once you reach one of the endings (there are at least 5), it shows you a chart of the plot paths, both possible and taken. It doesn't tell you what you skipped, but it shows you where the branches are, and how deep they go so you can try to get them on future plays (which can be sped up for faster replay!). This is actually a killer feature for a game like this. The puzzles are good, never repeated, and sparse so that you don't get sick of them. I would change the "clue discovered" mechanic. The "pick up this clue" icon can sometimes spoil a reading since it pops up as soon as you see something on a page, rather than having to click on an area specifically to get the clue added to your journal. If you really want to, you can just open every page and scroll through them and click on them as they pop up. You won't catch everything for the puzzles this way, but you'll get a lot of it. The game plays great with keyboard and mouse; full screen or resizable window; minimal options (but more are unnecessary since the game is UI and video). Install size is huge for what you might expect, but it reportedly supports 4K. Why only 4/5? There are some timed dialog choices that happen so fast you can't even read the choices before they disappear, including one in an ending sequence (with a checkpoint right before it, so not devastating).

Tries to be bigger than it is

I would HIGHLY advise anyone prone to epileptic seizures to avoid this game. I enjoyed it, but I think it's trying way too hard to one-up the previous entry. I suppose that's not a bad thing in itself, but a few of the Spook (TM) parts have so much distortion that you can't read the subtitles, and worse still, the epilogue's visuals made my eyes hurt. The story didn't grip me as much in this one, but that's down to personal preference. I could do without the download size forcing 4k videos on me, yikes. Overall, I don't regret my purchase at all ($9 is a fantastic price, I'm so glad more puzzle games are releasing at a low price), but I liked the first one better.

A Solid FMV detective game

If you like games like "Orwell", "The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker", "Her Story", "Sara is missing", or most of all, "Simulacra" 1, I think you'll like this. It has some definite improvements over its processors: -The graphics were incredibly high quality (4K). -A lot of tongue-in-cheek humor, which I appreciated. Themes include: "Health crazes", to "MLMs" to "the inability of old people to use technology". It's great. -Once you beat the game, you unlock a map of the branching choices of the game, allowing you to trace potential paths, and see all the content. -You also unlock "fast mode", allowing you to speed through the game on subsequent runs. -I loved the "cards" -I loved the TMC posts. But there were also a few steps back. Nothing worth knocking it down from five stars, but here are my criticisms: -The endings weren't up to par, with the first Simulacra. In the first, the best ending was difficult to get, and the worst was the easiest. All of the endings were different enough. In Simulacra 2, there are 7 endings, 6 bad and 1 good. But the good is very easy to get, and the bad you achieve (more or less) by being a jerk to someone. -For all the commentary on social media or influences, the main antagonist didn't really have anything profound to say, like they did in Simulacra 1. -Also, the big baddy felt more physically manifest, whereas in Simulacra 2, it was more psychologically manifest. Still, I really loved the game, and can't wait to see what the devs turn out next!

Loved it

I really loved both Simulacra games. Casual puzzles and a suspenseful story. I hope there will be a third game in the near future.

Great game

So since playing part 1, and seeing Markiplier play this game, I decided to dive in it also. I truly like the idea, that so many things can happen. My first playthrough got the good ending. Also, minor thing at times its so hard to get the clues and the help clues aren't really helpfull at times and it takes ages to find them all. In the end I still missed clues which I had no idea where they were. Above all, I enjoyed the , the acting wasn't perfect but I didn't mind at all. It is for the game itself of course. If you like searching around on a haunted phone and making like your own decision in some of the answers, than you should totally play it. I got it through the summer sale of steam and it was worth my money. I hope for a Simulacra 3
