Don't buy it and expect that it runs on modern Win11 systems. You need to tweak around and maybe find some help in the forums or elsewhere to get it running. But also might happen it won't work. So buy on your own risk. Sadly GOG forgets to mention this.
I am glad to see this one here. A Good Old Game. A mac-as-well--version would be nice though. This is one of those games that should ride on any HD for ever or should come as an OS-included game; IMHO. Why? It is a personality, a friend; someone to love. True; my computer initially couldn't handle the requirements of the game back then, but with today's systems that's history. I think the game is the conclusion of a successfull series; a perfect mix of it's predecessors plus everything one could imagine playing them - without MP functionality, that is.
Great city-building simulator; wonderfull game.
In the long history of Sim City, this game hit the balance of complexity and fun better than any other version. It is complex enough that players will continue to learn about the game long after purchasing, but accessible enough that anyone can play.
City building is coupled with vehicle based missions which allow the player to explore the city they have built by taking to the streets.
Also this game has a gigantic library of mods out that span years and years of fanaticism from hundreds and hundreds of talented content producers.
This game, and this game alone, they got EVERYTHING right. Sim City has never been this good.. and it never will again.
I bought the game, and watched plenty of videos to prepare. The environment draws you in, making you believe you're really in the city. The game looks great, and the idea of connecting your cities together in a mega-map is a great one. The tutorial seemed helpful.
However, once I started building (which is very fun), I had no idea how to make money. Dissatisfied citizens/council members are constantly demanding new buildings. But the more I built, the faster I lost money. I followed the guidance provided in the UI, but the problems remained. You can start out with a ton of cash, but I'm still not clear on how to balance the budget. The game doesn't actually explain much (like how to use highways), and so I just had to guess about much of it, and restart.
With lots of trial and error, I guess I could figure this game out. I know long-time players love it. But with so many other good games out there, I don't need to spend all of those hours figuring out how to overcome this game's needless shortcomings.
SimCity 4 is the last true chapter of the series - don't even look at SimCity 2013. It does everything right - no mandatory internet connection, large maps connected with each other on one globe, minimissions in your own city, tons of different buildings, smooth graphics etc. and on GOG with Win 7/8 compatibility for 5 bugs??? Go! Buy! Enjoy! That is an order mayors :-)
