Pointless Remake
Runs poorly, overpriced, and inferior to the original.

will buy if the DLC is ever released
One of the greatest ever story games gets a well-deserver great remake. But I am not buying it until they complete the story with the "Born From A Wish" expansion!

I got super excited at first
Unoptimised garbage, Enhanced Edition which has been worked on for 8 years has much more love put into it, than this stuttering nonsense that makes my GPU cry. it is so poorly made it relies on upscaling which is absolutely unnaceptable. A real disrespect to Masahiro Ito, Hiroyuki Owaku, Takayoshi Sato and the entire Team Silent. Only good thing is the music by Akira Yamaoka, but I still prefer the original. I wish Konami gave a proper Japanese team creative freedom to make something cool again. As much as I love Poland, Bloober Team did not have the capacity and that is not their fault, I am sure they tried their best and Konami is just ass to their workers and consumers. Sadly this review will get downvoted, but this is just not a game you will remember on your death bed compared to the original. Greed and materialism are strong in this world and Konami wanted to make sure they get some money as Silent Hill 2 was so successful, but even if it was programmed properly (even og SH2 PC port was in a better state, yes it lacked soft shadows etc but that was more of a directx limitation rather than bad work). I am into og SH2 more than half of my life, saw the making of, played the OG with born from a wish scenario, but when I played this, I was disgusted from the get-go. You will not get much of the atmosphere when all you hear is your GPU loading assets you cannot see, timing and shots/acting in the cutscenes, wrong camera, Maria/Mary distinction completely loses its meaning as they made her less sexy (I dont wanna spoil too much but her more revealing was the entire point). Even without the technical problems (i5 13400f, rtx 3060, 32gb ddr4, m2 ssd), this waste would be inferior to the original, that had its BRILLIANT own engine (thx for losing its source code Konami), not Unreal which was not even built for this type of game, I am done writing as it makes me upset, I do not wanna be negative so I apologize, please play Enhanced Edition (and rather buy SH4 on GOG)

Unreal 5 slop, SH Homecoming reskin.
Maker no mistake: This is not THE Silent Hill 2 game everyone raves about to this day. This 2024 DEI-make capsules everything WRONG with 2020's industry. The gameplay is yet another Over-Shoulder action slop a la SH:HC / TLOU / RE4R, focusing too much on combat, destroying the brilliant camera-work and player guidance the originals had. Demake also adds tons of generic "open world" and "cinematic" busywork that plague modern triple-A games. The Unreal Engine 5 means that you need an RTX4000 series card to get even 30fps at 1080p. While using DLSS, ruining your eye sight either with the TAA smear, or noisy, runny dithering. No in-betweens. The character design sucks, everyone looks like a stiff alien. The characters' roles, behavior and overall attitude are also much more 1-dimensional and flat, because you cannot have good points on a "villain", and a game about "sex and death" cannot actually show sexy characters. This also extends to literal censorshipping of PH's actions. He's now just SH Movie's "Executioner"! The voice acting is just as bad as in the 2010's HD Collection. Monotonous and destroys the character nuance and emotion. The new OST is over-produced the same Square-Enix's ruined Final Fantasy X-X2's HD remasters' music; too many added layers of instruments muddling the melody and the early 00's punk-rock vibes, replacing it with something akin to a big band cover. The use of said soundtrack is also way worse, with less thought put into the mixing: why does the PH's appearance noise start playing randomly when exploring the streets before the Apartments?? What's the point of the radio if it's constantly covered by the dynamic soundtrack blasting with max volume if you come across a foe? The in-game and cutscene cinematography is all around inferior to the 2001 original, possessing all the telltale signs of the post-2010s' "MCU" tropes. Finally, the 70 dollar price tag ain't enough, as they shill the "ebinn meme hat DLC" to the Twitch audiences.
