Massively disppointed.

I've played a lot of Sid Meier's games over the decades, ever since Civ1 came out. I've bought and played many, only avoiding his sport sims. I've also played Railroad Tycoon II and III, and this game sucks. 1. The timing is ridiculous. A train, even in mid-19th century does not take a year to get from Birmingham to London, not even with Virgin Rail. 2. Trains meet at a two track junction, one with a High Priority status and the other with Low priority status, and yet they BOTH sit there doing nothing. WHY? 3. You make an error with laying tracks, which is not exactly hard to do with this game, and how do you undo that error? End the game and reload? Pfft. I have played some hours on it, and I am TRYING to like it, but it's very difficult. Compared to even the ancient game of Railroad Tycoon II this is not a good example of the sterling and fantastic work done by Sid Meiers. Best rail sim you can get, Railroad 3. Grab that instead. FAR more game for your money. Better balanced. Better management systems. Better economics. This is a pale copy..

Expect Crashes

because of the 64bit bug, and because it only uses one core along with poor memory managment, this game will crash, for sure. I love this game. When I first bought it on cd it crashed then too. I expected a better fix from a gog game

Sid Meiers Railroads - very good but

The game itself is great. Although it basically is a miniature railroad, it is much more complex than the graphics might suggest. I have spent days creating new maps and scemnarios. The problem is that the GOG version is not the same as the full disk version. This then limits what you can do other than play the pre-designed scenarios already in the game. I have made mods for the game, which is why I know the GOG version is different from the full disk version. Nonetheless, it is a good game and can be quite challenging, but if you want to make the most of it, find the disk version.

wait for new patch. Still has bugs

If you're using 64 bits or a new computer don't buy it. Wait for this game to get fixed.

Sid Meier does it again!

What can I say? I loved it when it came out and I've already lost another 50 hours since it came out on GoG. My first foray back into the world was a "straight eight" session. Sid Meier is a sort of genius.— for a lot of games and reasons. This is basically Railroad Tycoon 4, and I like this better than the others in the Railroad Tycoon series for a lot of reasons you'll see below. You play as a railroad tycoon (shock me, shock me) beginning a rail empire in the 1850s and lasting until the 1970s (you can keep playing long into the future if you wish). You can play sandbox, random map or scenarios with up to three opponents (and things can get realy hairy!). The scenarios take place in the U.S., Britain and mainland Europe. You build your rail empire hauling everything from grain to automobiles. You lay track, build stations and buy industries. You can buy stock in and eventually buy out your competition. The supply chains are pretty basic, but they're rewarding enough. People who liked the complexity of RRT3 may be a little disappointed in the options. There is even an official developer Christmas mod! I've also played other mods, one based on dogs where you haul biscuits and frisbees (it was actually a lot of fun). Pros: + Beautiful, even for its age + Large variety of trains, landscapes and goods + Easy-to-use interface + Easy to get started playing, especially for people new to the genre + Interesting scenarios with varying challenge levels + Competition is fun + Easily modable and there are readily available mods that work with the GoG/Galaxy versions + SUPER FUN Cons: - After you learn what you're doing it does feel kind of easy. - Competition can get ridiculous when multiple companies are all hooked up to one city— the tracks look like spaghetti! - Eras move a little too fast to enjoy some engines - Train upgrades are spaced out oddly, you won't get any for awhile and then you'll get a few at once - No soundtrack...music only plays near cities
