Evergreen
While the first Civilization created the genre and made history, in my opinion the third installment is the best from a technical point of view. I've never played the fourth, so I don't know, but the second was kind of wonky with all those attempts to 3D graphics. The isometric view was an improvement, but Civilization 3 has it too (and better), moreover now each nation has its own actual borders, something I was missing since the beginning. I bought it and found myself playing until 3am as if I was a kid again. Timeless, priceless.

A game that grows on you
At first when I played this game I asked myself "Ok what now?" I'm not gonna lie this isn't an easy civ game and for first timers, I would personally suggest trying out the newer games before this game! This game is tons of fun, but when trying to get into it for the first time, it can be a little hard (took me a few games to realize how to play correctly and manage). However, once you get into the game it'll be the best experience you'll face as a marvel for a game of it's age and value. I was at first feeling this game wasn't my type of civ, but as I got more into it, I realized this game became amazing. In conclusion for new comers and experienced civ players, it's a game worth checking out, but be prepared to play it even when it may seem dull because it'll help the game grow on you.

Yes, BUT.
The game is nice, full of stuff to do, some of the features are on this game only BUT, it's not really welcoming, the first combat are gonna make you cringe. I litteraly lost all my troops on some city for god knows which reason. I would recommend to play 4 first and then come to this opus.

Solid Entry
The Civ game I prefer is II (Hail to the king, baby. Let's go bonk some heads!). For some reason, no one wants to offer that one, so until someone comes to their senses, this remains my consolation prize. It runs well and offers a good deal of depth, so, no complaints.
