One of the best in the series
The Major Strength of Civ III is the Map Editor. More flexible and easier to use for the average player than Civ IV. The "World Builder" of Civ4 only allows you to alter scenarios from the installation or randomly generated maps. You cannot create maps from scratch - you can only change what has already been created within predefined parameters.

Civilization III(BEST Civ ever released)
Civilization III, when I got into it I was too young to appreciate it, I was impetus, I was aggressive, but over the years, I learned how to play properly I dominated Europe as Germany in one game and nearly conquered the world as Russia in another(America, I'll never forget how you and you alone stood against me) Onto better things now. thanks to the website Civ Fanatics, you can do nearly anything you want! Aliens vs Predator! WWI! WWII! WWIII! Vietnam! Korea! Desert Storm! Warhammer 40,000! Warhammer Fantasy! LOTR! create and combine and you can create some awesome scenarios! the gameplay is the best in any Civ game I've played

It's Civilization
Good, I have nothing negative to say. Just ultimately wanted to add the resolution fixes to the reviews so everyone can find them https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Sid_Meier%27s_Civilization_III#Widescreen_resolution

A good game with some serious blimishes
I've played Civ since Civ1, but Civ3 is the one that I've put the most time into. That said I need to put my rose tinted glasses aside and admidt to this game's serious flaws. Easily the number one problem is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep pace with research on even the easiest levels. No matter what you do, you WILL get left behind. Next is it's IMPOSSIBLE to keep pace with building new cities. Espionage is just flat out worth messing with, the payout simply does not justify the cost. Negotiations are completely unfair and it's very cleat that the AI players are WAY stacked against you. And lastly you constantly have single weaker enemy units cut down an entire army. I once threw 10 veteran swordsmen at a rookie spear man on flat open ground and it was elite with full health at the end of the turn. That's not bad luck, that's cheating. Basically the whole game feels like it depends on cheating the player rather than good AI to make it challenging. Not cool. That said, it's tons of fun.
