Perfectly Delightful
Let it be said first and foremost that I own this game for the Nintendo 3DS and did not purchase it through GOG, so I will not and cannot comment on the game as a PC title, but will however, talk about it as a game in general. Should you choose to purchase this game, I do recommend it for the 3DS for the 3D and the convienience, but if that is not an option then frankly any version will be just as good. This is a truly wonderful game in every regard. The levels are difficult, but not unfairly so. The music is fantastic, standing toe-to-toe with even the most classic NES titles. The world is pretty standard fare, but it's filled with unique and interesting bosses and NPC's that will keep you entertained and surprised throughout the entire game. The upgrade system is simple but effective, although I will say that by the end of the game I had too much money to really care about most of them. Also I'd like to make special note of the story. It's a very simple, straight-forward affair (save the girl from the tower) but the ways in which Shovel Knight circumvents these cliches and uses them to create plot twists is truly amazing, and I have to say that the final cut-scene was far, far more emotionally touching than I expected it to be. It's not a masterpiece of the ages, but it's a damn good game in every regard, and for fifteen dollars, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more entertaining way to spend six hours.

8-bit platformer that still dominates
$10 and just over 7 hours of frustrating but awesome gameplay, for 73% completion…and I could totally go play it again from scratch. Mario 3, Mega Man 2, and Zelda: Link to the Past all rolled into the best combo one could imagine. This would have been the best NES game ever. Beating every stage and every boss felt lovely. Controls are perfect - knockback is annoying, but having the armor options…adding the abilities and specials and armor and shovel moves…it's perfectly deep, perfectly challenging. Hats off to Yacht Club games for making something more entertaining and engaging than the scores of FPS clones and kill-X-of-baddie-Y brainlessness that we've been addicted to for years and years.

Great platformer!
Amazing game!!! If you're looking for an old classic 8-bit/16-bit platformer then this is worth your money (even when it's not on sale). The game remembers me of old classics from Capcom. Ducktales (the shovel) and Mega man (music). You can by the soundtrack (pay what you want!) here: http://virt.bandcamp.com/album/shovel-knight-original-soundtrack

Fun all around.
So you want to be a Shovel Knight huh. Well Shovel Knight is a great game. Not just becouse of the old school vibe or the amazing music and adictive gameplay. No the game also teaches you as you play. No seriously the very first level is your tutorial level and all the things you need to know it teaches you. Without pausing or any text telling you at all. Just with Good game design! And that is just the start of the game. It never loses its charm or gets frustrating. If you die its your own fault so abit like darksouls some times you need to calm down and think about what you're doing and not just rush through.
