Rough around the edges, still Shenmue.

I'm going to make this very simple, and try to avoid a lot of the headier discussions around this game. Did you like Shenmue I and II? Yes? Good, now can you stomach a version of those made on a shoestring budget, that's much rougher around the edges? No. Okay, cool, you probably won't like this then. We can sit and talk all day about the rough edges this game has (and hoo boy, there are A LOT of them; most annoying to me is how the FREE dialogue is structured, more on that in a second), but at the end of the day, it well and truly is Shenmue, for better or for worse. The story doesn't really move forward as much, it more or less fleshes out what we already knew. From interviews around those in the know, and screenshots in the background during development interviews, it seems the budget was really the issue, and a lot got cut and we ultimately got about half the Shenmue III that Yu Suzuki wanted to make, and it really REALLY shows. One of the biggest rough spots where this shows is the FREE dialogue, when you're walking around trying to get information from random people, the dialogue is often jarring and doesn't quite make sense, an entire section of the game was cut, and because of that, the dialogue had to rapidly be reworked, and is called in gameplay in much more of a "grab bag" fashion, so the flow doesn't work quite as well. These are the things you have to be aware of when playing this game; but it's very clear underneath it all that this is still Shenmue, and Yu Suzuki DOES have a vision forward.

Lost its charm, carried by nostalgia

Many like myself have been waiting for this for decades, having followed the original two games before they released and purchased on day one I thought they were the best games ever made and still do, for this reason nostalgia carried me through this game. Having backed kickstarter and hoping to have some closure when it comes to the story I went into this game with an open mind and moderate expectations for several reasons. The game managed to barely meet those expectations in some ways and fall short in many others. I don't want to go on for too long here so I'll leave it with a few pros and cons. Pros Triggers nostalgic feelings Decent amount of places to explore Nice fight scenes Fan service Graphics are decent for a low budget game Cons Bad combat mechanics Bad chracter art No closure for the story Short So if you're a big fan you'll find something worth playing for, otherwise I can't recommend.

Just like before

Well, this is an old game in modern days. Same concept but with better graphics, which sounds and executes a bit strange, but just like before, delivers a lighthearted, hopefull, martial arts journey, full of positive messages and adventure. It's not violence and gore, not a conclusion to the story, it's what could be made and that's fine. This society seems to reject, nowadays, everything that it's not degenerative or grotesque, violent or inhumane. Shenmue always has been the opposite of that, and still delivered great games. This one is not a step foward as desired, it's more of the same , and that all fans can be contempt with. The community will work around to have more Shenmue in the future. For now, let's just be happy with what we have, Hope for the future as long as Shenmue fans exist.

Another Step on the Journey

Shenmue 3 continues what the previous installments started. You're still moving through gorgeous environments where there are plenty of activities to enjoy, and Ryo is still chasing his arch nemesis, Lan Di. The game's shortcomings appear to be the somewhat tedious progression. However, this isn't too bad; even training is a part of the path to the top. The only issue is money, which can be problematic if you don't gamble for an unreasonably long time and exchange your winnings for toys. Then, you can exchange the toys for money, though there is a slight loss of token and yuan value in the process. Nevertheless, Yu Suzuki's Shenmue 3 came out well, and I can't wait for the fourth installment! #LetsGetShenmue4

The best response to old fans

Attention!: If this is your first time playing this game, please go play the collection of the first two parts first I originally intended to give it five stars, but due to the poor adaptation of the keyboard and mouse in the game (even unable to customize buttons), I could only give it four stars. It feels like playing its two predecessors, with familiar operations and gameplay. Even QTE is as difficult to press as before, making it impossible for me to miss every failed QTE animation. (Laughing) Modern games contact a lot, it may be very difficult to play at first, but once you bring yourself to play the previous game when the mood. Oh my God, this is great!
