Description
Follow a powerful Lynx through vast open landscapes. Give birth to your cubs, raise and strengthen them by mastering your skills for hunting prey. Explore the wild beauty of nature and do everything possible to prepare your family for the vicious entities dwelling on the cold tundra.

Shelter 2 portraits a mother lynx and her life cycle, starting as a pregnant animal preparing her den for the coming litter, giving birth, and continuing in to a journey of parenthood where nurturing her cubs is paramount for survival. The more you feed the stronger you and your cubs will become, and failing to find food will lead to dire consequences. To avoid starvation there are many features to master, such as different types of movements, jumps and techniques for hunting prey. Besides finding food you must make sure to have a good den, see that your cubs drink water from nearby rivers, and make sure to call them close when they wander to far away.
  • In Shelter 2 you get to play as a powerful predator – The Lynx.
  • You can collect bone trophies of all the prey you kill. You can also collect rare items found in the wilderness.
  • The world is a vast open nature which you can explore and return to. You will always have a base in center of the world – Your den.

A journey you need to want to make

This game is less a game than it is a journey of life. There is little to do but to cross the way of possible food. The graphics are almost nil except that you can imagine the world that those mere forms represent. And that's actually it. Don't buy this game if you're looking for something like a game that tells you a story or sends you on missions. You'd be disappointed by the lack of it. The graphics tend to be horrible from an outer prespective. Yet this game amazed me for what it is: a journey that happened almost entirely in my head. During those two hours of lifetime that one mother lynx has, it gave me all of those feelings that life throws at you. Exploring the world is fascinating for the exploration alone. There's nothing special to find except a good time that you have with your children. And in my opinion that's the key aspect of the game. You build up a relationship to those four pixelated creatures that try to stay close to you. I loved them. They annoyed me quite some time, but I very much loved having them around, watching them grow. The final chapter is hard to swallow but still a part of life, when you go there alone to die. And even though I knew what would happen, the final moments made me so happy. My life as a lynx was going to end, but it was a good life.

Lovely and emotional

Lovely game. I must agree that it is different than the Shelter 1. I like both of them. Shelter 1 is great for begginers and also for people, who want to have emotional story without a word! This one contains words and is more like a sandbox, but still interesting. Few things are a bit annoying for a player of the first game, but you get used to it. There are still some things left for the player to explain, how he/she likes. And hey, lynxes are very cute (well after Shelter 1, I must say that badger is cute too, but I did not think about it before). Don't worry, you can expect nice bugs (like falling through the terrain in some bushes or on the stones, or rabbits running from you in sitting position - but hey, they are then quick). If you buy it, I recommend to notice the "Saving" caption in the right bottom corner. Because if you mess something from last Saving moment, you can hit Esc and select Load and get back to last save point. But not further. And another thing, you don't need to finish with any cub, but it is preferable to end with at least one.

Drops sound, no windowed, no save, tedios

Lets start with the god, I guess it's art style does forgive it's low poly count for a modern game. My main issues we're that it drops sound when the window loses focus (due to a pop up). There is no windowed mode to get around this' a borderless window mode comes standard with most modern games. There is no manual saving which means if you have issues you have to get to an ill defined save point before you can do anything about it. The whole game is basically a nature grind, not really what i would call survival; survival games usually give you solid indicators for hunger & thirst (maybe even wounds). Well Shelter doesn't seem to be anywhere near in depth enough for your charges to be injured; there seems there is only death... usually by hawk. Another thing how come the few varieties of bird are basically very low fliers? Realism out the window right there. Don't get me wrong there is barely a game there and it does feel good to basically attack everything but bears, run it down and chomp it to bits; I just really hate the railroad bits where you have to follow some magical stars bull-plop; Oh and the clippings are atrociously terrible.

Don't Buy

The visuals of this game is all it has to stand up on. They are interesting to look at to be sure. The game play, however, is so boring. All you do is hunt rabbits and deer. I never found any wolves outside of the beginning, and never lost a cub after I tested if they could die. With no need to defend your children from wolves or the weather it is a very easy game. The deer and rabbit hunting isn't a challenge, nor is it fun, so the only way your children will die is when you eventually get bored with the game and quite it. I don't understand how people are giving this game good scores. They must simply be people who get attached very easily because there simply isn't much to this game.
