In the beginning, there was the King.
From a thought, he conjured up the Void.
From a glance, he made the world.
And from a whisper, he created us.
The world as it was is gone, lost with the disappearance of the King. As a Wanderer of these forsaken lands, it is up to you to piece together the fragments of reality and retrace the fall of civilisation through skill based combat, innovative open-world platforming and the testimonies of survivors… some more trustworthy than others.
Ethereal exploration and epic battles
A ruined continent of untold stories and mighty foes is yours to roam. For those who brave its paths, the world of Hypnos contains many secrets, some to aid you on your way and others to illuminate the road that led to your existence. Experience precision based combat and 2.5D platforming set to a complex branching narrative in the reality spanning action-adventure of Shattered - Tale of the Forgotten King.
Are you ready, Wanderer?
Features:
A new world to discover: Explore a gorgeously rendered semi-open world with branching paths and mysterious secrets. Each new zone tells a story through stunning art direction and finely crafted design.
Monstrous enemies to defeat: Observe your foes, anticipate their moves and use their own attacks against them. Switch between close-combat sword fights and long distance spell slinging to dominate the battlefield, and experience seamless transitions between full 3D and 2.5D battles.
A tale 10 years in the making: The universe of Shattered is the culmination of over a decade’s worth of imagination and creativity: an epic reality conjured from the minds at Redlock Studio. Tale of the Forgotten King is but a first step into the world of Hypnos, with more games already planned.
A story all your own: Not all survivors of Hypnos are trustworthy: though most will help you on your way, there are those who seek to use you for their own ends. The world will remember the choices you make during your adventure, and only those with focus and dedication will see through to the truth beyond.
Constant progression: Whether through combat or exploration, the Wanderer will evolve. How is up to you. With your finite resources will you raise your strength or discover another truth of Hypnos? Buy a new weapon, or increase your spellcasting? The choice is yours but choose carefully: not every path can be taken.
« I had travelled through forgotten paths for days, weeks and months to reach the Thousand-Door Palace. A place where only silence reigned now. Where the wind had stopped and the tides retreated with the Great Rift. The great Departure.
And here I was, bathed in my mist of past and future memories, standing in this mythical place that remained, still. The only location anyone in Hypnos could have found with no map or compass back when the King still reigned.
And I Remember the Silence In My Soul.
The Bitter Raindrops In the Wind. »

Although the game at first feels like a soulslike with the familiar elements, the difficulty is not so. I felt this game in total feels more like BOTW or Pine (combat, but chill) than an actual soulslike. Which for me was not really a bad thing, as I knew this beforehand by another review and can enjoy those kind of games as well.
So, if you really need combat to be exceptional (and/or difficult), this game will not do it. However, if you see this just as an adventure game, you will probably have a good time.
Pros:
- Environment is well done and more importantly it varies across the game.
- Level design is very well done, relatively small maze-like areas, including vertical travel, and lots of shortcuts to open.
- Save games in front of bosses (looking at you sekiro...)
- Lore is presented somewhat too cryptic and inconsistent, but I liked the content very much in the end.
Cons:
- After the final boss, I still don't know what 80% of the items in my inventory are for (even some very rare ones).
- Leveling is too fast, start of the game is more difficult than the end.
- Combat on its own is not that exciting
- Enemies vary too little.
Played the game on Ubuntu and worked like a charm (wine + DXVK). Some textures seem to be missing, but it is only noticable in a few areas.
GREAT "calm" but mystical atmosphere, story and world.
(incl. a fitting, intriguing soundtrack)
Pretty well telegraphed almost "clockwork" like combat.
If you die you know exactly why you did and where you messed up.
Fair but challenging boss fights.
For comparison I played all DS and Sekiro and had to try some bosses ~15 times.
Very cool art style I think.
Mostly not extremely difficult but challenging (it has its parts...).
Perfect for evenings after work that are not frustrating but also not boring.
To start with positive aspects. The main menu has an excellent artwork at the background, the font is stylish and readable, the music is fitting, and there are a lot of graphical settings to customize.
I have encounter a bug, which successfully renders the game unplayable - the default control scheme uses AQSD instead of WASD for movement and when I try to rebind them, the game freezes - I cannot assign a key, move the cursor or close the settings, and have to shut down the application via Task Manager.
There were also issues with installation, the game used the space on the C: (SSD, system) drive during installation, instead of D: (HDD, everything else), where it was to be installed.
I am approximately at 2 hrs into the game, I had to give up because I could not take it any longer.
PRO:
* interesting convoluted story but at the end you will not understand a single thing in the entire lore of the game
* good soundtrack/ost during the game
* replayability (maybe?) for multiple endings
* nice look&feel of the game in general (but gets old soon)
CONS:
* enemies feels all the same and look the same (with hoody or with armor, nothing else)
* a totally missed "Dark Souls series wannabe"
* parry timeframe is like 1 millisecond, and when you have more than one enemy the only tactics to survive is to run away
* no camera reset with R3
* you will get stuck thousands of times between objects
* you will fall thousand of times from platforming
* no way to re-arrange quick access items or remove any of them once added
* quick access items only cycle with the right d-pad (why not left d-pad as well?)
* names over names of "things" and "people" just to try to create "something professional" but at the end you will not care of any single of them
* no way to recover any of the "shards" or "aeon" (credits for short) after death (wanna be like DS? Do like DS!)
* "death" screen takes forever and the devs added the annoying part where the enemy still keep hitting you for 10 seconds after you die just to make you rage
* you can crash the game just playing with the main menu or when dying just pressing all the buttons randomly
* I was able to get stuck in the game falling and at the same time opening the menu (who QA this game? a cat?)
* absolutely utterly no Q.A. (just to try to make it stable at least) in this game
A game that will try to make you quit rage. My quit rage was a refund, how about that developers?
10 years to make this game? You probably need 20 more years just to fix it!
My suggestions to the developers is to find a different job, being a game developer is not for everyone and not everyone can!
After finishing the game (I played via Steam because the game doesn't support controller natively), I can say that I'll miss the vibes of this game.
It's hard, but in a really charming and atmosferic way. The only two things that I can criticize is that I think the game is too dark, so there were a lot of moments that even with a lantern I was lost.
The second thing is the storyline, that I wish to discover more about without having to give items that are really important to improve my character at the start of the game!
