Rare Gem of OpenSource gaming
I played countless hours of this game on mobile and has built it from source dozens of times. Yet I bought it on GOG right away to support the creator. It is indeed a very polished game with an interesting balance and challenges to make multiple playthroughs enjoyable. I would recommend anybody interested in game design to get this game, play it a few times and then read its changelog and maybe even the source code. As for the regular gamers, there are a few points I could say in favour of this game that are relatively unique among the modern titles: - Intentionally capped game length. The author was asked many times to add extra levels to prolong the game session, yet made the choices to keep individual session short. You can complete the game in just the few hours you have of gaming time to relax. - Strong focus on replaybility. Different characters play very differently. All of the lore can be collected over several playthroughs. - Strong focus on player experimentation. You are not given explanations for all the ways the player interacts with environment, encouraging the player to experiment. - Good UI. I've been playing the game for several years and it has improved drastically. You can use only mouse (touchscreen) or keyboard only. The system of on screen buttons and hotkeys is robust enough to not favour either style. I feel that I should mention a few areas that could be improved. But the developer freely calls them out in the in-game change log - such as the desire to rework the Smith quest in the caves. Surely there is more content to come to this game and watching it grow is half the fun.
