Do you like automation games? Then you are in the right place!

shapez is a relaxed game in which you have to build factories for the automated production of geometric shapes. As the level increases, the shapes become more and more complex, and you have to spread out on the infinite map.

And as if that wasn't enough, you also have to produce exponentially more to satisfy the demands - the only thing that helps is scaling! While you only have to process shapes at the beginning, you will later have to color them - by extracting and mixing colors!

A great game to program without code.

A mini-Factorio of sorts that is simple and structured by levels so that you can learn new elements step by step with clear goals and don't get overwhelmed by too many different inputs and outputs. If you don't know Factorio, you will be given an "infinite" grid where some squares will give you resources that need to be transformed and sent to a special location in the grid. You're given infinite tools that will need to be placed in the grid and using the space in a clear and efficient way. Making the experience even more like programming, you will unlock a copy-and-paste ability that could make things easier if your design works with that in mind. Quite addictive and fun. There's a free browser version you can try to see if this will be to your liking. Why is not a 5-star game? - A couple of important levels require a mechanic that is not sufficiently explored before. It's likely you will need to look for help online. - Once you start using hundreds of elements there are some reports of slow response and even some bugs.

Why 5 stars for a "lesser Factorio"?

If you like Factorio, I'd recommend playing this and sticking through past the end of the campaign. The campaign itself is a linear progression where you produce and deliver increasingly more complex "shapes" to the main hub. There are no survival elements and no character to play as: this does make Shapez more shallow in a sense, but also it can be nice to just focus on building factories without distractions and inconveniences. The only action that consumes any kind of currency is copying and pasting, but that currency can be produced relatively easily. All-in-all, pretty addicting, but might feel like "lesser Factorio" to some. The post-game is where Shapez really shines. Throughout the game you unlock various logic gates and wiring components - things that are present in Factorio, Minecraft etc. but usually are not given any real reason to exist. Here though, past the end of the campaign, the game starts demanding production of randomly-generated pieces - a task that's tedious to do by hand, but is a perfect excuse to build a computerized Make-Anything-Machine! This alone provides enough depth to the game to warrant 5 stars IMO, there's just no reason to build anything like this in Factorio given that all recipes are known in advance.

Idle, despite claims otherwise

I tried out the .io version first (as one of the reviews in the trailer mentions it), and decide ot buy the game. There was a claim in game that this is not an idle game, but rather a game about efficiency. ...It's an idle game. A somewhat random one at that. You do unlock items that can increase efficiency, but once you've deleted parts of your old lines to replace the parts, you're back to waiting for thousands of items to be delivered. There is also a distinct lack of a pause option, which may lead some (like me) to not realise the item had a quarter-twist in the wrong direction until they actually trace the line all the way back to the beginning and see it. Nice music, though.

Fun for a few hours

To me, the core gameplay of resources, belts and cuts/colors is more satisfying than in similar games like say, Factorio where the cost of crafting items makes everything slower. However there's an issue with replayability. Once you unlock the basic tools, you have practically finished the game. There is no point to level up your speed because you don't need resources for anything except the "main objective". And the main objective only unlocks some extra tools you don't need because the basic ones already do everything. You also don't need to mimize anything because you have infinite room to build, infinite resources and free belts.

Perfect Casual Automation Game

I want to build a production line at my own pace without worrying about resources or attacks. That's what this game is. You can build and delete at leasure with no resources lost, or just sit back and watch the numbers go up to a very pleasant soundtrack.
